NTL SOFTBALL: WILLIAMSON RUN COMES TO AN END IN DISTRICT 4 QUARTERFINALS (2024-05-24)

Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
MUNCY, PA — Williamson scored more runs against Muncy’s starters than any team the Lady Indians played during their 19-1 regular season, but D1-bound pitcher Nola Moyer had 19 strikeouts and the Warriors fell 6-2.

Muncy scored all the runs they’d need in the first inning as they took a 3-0 lead against Williamson and starting pitcher Kenna Thomas. The sophomore was tagged with the loss after going four and a third innings and allowing four runs (3 earned) on five base hits and four walks with seven strikeouts.

Williamson struggled to get their offense going against Moyer, who is slated to pitch for St. Bonaventure next season. The Warriors had six straight strikeouts in the first and second innings, suffered two more in the third, had three in the fourth .. sandwiched around a walk .. and were sat down in order in the 5th frame as well.

Muncy added a single run in the 5th to go up 4-0.

After two strikeouts to lead off the top of the sixth inning, Williamson got a double from freshman catcher Lexi Smalley, who would score on a passed ball while Laila Hackett and Mikenna Buchanan each drew a walk. Kaegan Short would single to score Hackett and the Muncy lead was cut in half, 4-2.

The Indians added their final two runs in the bottom of the sixth and Moyer struck out the Williamson side in the top of the seventh to seal the District 4, Class 2A quarterfinal win.

Smalley and Short had Williamson’s hits while Hackett and Smalley scored runs and Short had an RBI.

Buchanan relieved Thomas and threw two-thirds of an inning, with two walks and a K, while Olivia Gee threw the final inning and allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit and two walks with one strikeout.

The loss is just the second one for the Warriors in over a month as they went 8-1 to end their regular season at 10-10 and won their first round game over Line Mountain.
