TIOGA COUNTY YOUTH & VARSITY WRESTLERS COMPETE FOR PA VS. NY IN DUALS ON DESMOND (2024-06-09)

SAYRE, PA — Several West athletes competed for Team PA at the inaugural Duals on Desmond Wrestling Showcase here Saturday, as the varsity boys match went to NY State and Pennsylvania won the youth exhibition.

The showcase featured three dual meets ..  youth, varsity girls and varsity boys wrestlers from Pennsylvania against New York. Team PA won the youth and girls matchups, while Team NY took the varsity boys match. 

New York proved too much for Pennsylvania in the boys’ varsity match, winning 43-31. 

Williamson wrestler Luke Sottolano was a winner for PA, earning a 3-0 decision over Tioga (NY) three-time Section IV qualifier and 4th-place finisher in 2023-24, Tate McCauley,

Sottolano’s Williamson teammate Joel Hultz fell by fall to NY’s Yanni Drapaniotis from Unatego, and Wellsboro’s Ryder Bowen was pinned by two-time Section IV champ and two-time NY State qualifier Dikota Hamilton from Ithaca.

In the youth match, four of the five Tioga County wrestlers earned wins, including Southern Tioga’s Bridger Lehman (6-1 dec.), Tyler Evans, Jr (fall) and Brooks Casselberry (2-0 dec.) and Williamson’s Brock Collum (fall :44) while ST’s Grant Casselberry was edged 3-0.
