Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
TIOGA COUNTY — The Northern Tier West Sports Report is proud to recognize the following athletes and coaches with our All-Tioga County Softball Teams and individual award winners, led by Player of the Year, North Penn-Liberty’s Mackenzi Tice

The Penn College-bound Tice is the Player of the Year for the second straight season and led the 19-1 Mounties from the circle and at the plate. The senior pitched 80 innings and went 15-1 with a .79 ERA and 125 strikeouts. Tice hit .370 and got on base at a .490 clip with 31 base hits (including five doubles and a triple), 21 RBI, 35 runs scored and 21 stolen bases.

The Offensive Player of the Year is Williamson sophomore Kenna Thomas, who put up a .485 batting average and a .533 on-base-percentage for the Lady Warriors with 32 base hits .. more than half of which were for extra bases (11-2B, 3-3B, 3 HR) .. 29 runs scored and 20 RBI. The repeat All-Tioga County first-teamer also threw 76 innings for Williamson, going 4-7 with a 2.75 ERA and 122 strikeouts.

The Pitcher of the Year is Cowanesque Valley ace Ruby Sherman, who threw 97 innings for the 16-4 Lady Indians and had a .43 ERA and 122 strikeouts. Sherman hit .437 with a .452 on-base-percentage, 31 base hits and 22 runs scored.

The Defensive Player of the Year is North Penn-Liberty senior first-baseman Payton Chapel, who committed just two errors in 152 chances for the Mounties this season. At the plate, Chapel hit .290 with a .425 OBP, 15 base hits, 14 runs scored and 11 RBI.

Head Coach Jason Chapel and the Mounties experienced an earlier end to their season than they had hoped for, but the defending District and NTL champs repeated an undefeated regular season and claimed back-to-back league titles before falling in the Class 2A semifinals to eventual champ, Midd-West. Chapel and his staff (Adam Freon, Kyle Smith, Lynn Kshir) are the softball Coaches of the Year.

This season’s All-Tioga County Rookie of the Year is Williamson freshman Olivia Gee, who went 7-2 for the Lady Warriors over 51 innings pitched with a 2.49 ERA and 49 strikeouts. At the plate, Gee was a valuable lead-off hitter with an on-base-percentage of .355 and a .234 batting average with 15 base hits (including a home run and a double), 23 runs scored and seven RBI.
