'23-'24 ALL-TIOGA COUNTY 'SUPER 7' MALE NEWCOMERS OF THE YEAR (2024-06-26)

TIOGA COUNTY — Southern Tioga sophomore Luke Kreger made his varsity debut in three sports and headlines the 2023-24 All-Tioga County ‘Super 7’ Male Newcomers of the Year.

Kreger quickly became a favorite target of veteran quarterback Karson Dominick and helped the North Penn-Mansfield Panthers to a District 4 appearance by hauling in 28 receptions for 539 yards and seven touchdowns. In the Winter, Kreger was named the All-Tioga County Sixth Man of the Year and the Newcomer of the Year after coming off the bench for the 12-12 North Penn-Liberty Mounties and averaging 8.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.6 steals per game. Kreger was a consistent point-winner for the NP-Mansfield Track & Field team in the Spring and won a District 4 medal with a 4th-place finish in the high jump.

Luke Rothermel, Wellsboro, sophomore (basketball, tennis) .. 8.3 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 2 apg, 17 steals as a starter for the Hornets, scored career-high 16 points in a Wellsboro win over Jersey Shore. Went 9-3 at No. 2 Singles for the NTL champion Hornets tennis team and also won a first-round match at doubles’ districts.

Danny Smith, Cowanesque Valley/Williamson, freshman (golf, baseball) .. finished with the 2nd-low average (94.63) for the Indians and was 19th in the NTL and then hit .424 with a .525 OBP, 14 hits, 11 runs scored and 5 doubles for the Warriors’ baseball team.

Dave Hess, Cowanesque Valley, freshman (football, baseball) .. the boys’ ’Newcomer of the Fall’ after gaining over 800 yards and eight touchdowns in his inaugural season, Hess averaged 5.2 yards per carry and gained 550 yards on the ground with five TDs and had 13 catches for 300 yards and three touchdowns. 
Went 3-1 with a 3.89 ERA over 21 innings pitched with 22 strikeouts for the Indians in the Spring.

David Seeling, Wellsboro, sophomore (soccer, T&F) .. starting midfielder for the NTL champion Hornets’ soccer team with a goal and four assists, was 3rd in both the 110m and 300m hurdles and 6th in the high jump at the NTL Championships for the Wellsboro Track & Field team.

Michael Knefley, North Penn-Mansfield, freshman (XC, T&F) .. had a 4th place finish at the NTL Cross Country meet (17:52) and a 17th place finish at Districts (17:06) .. the 1st runner out of State qualification. The All-Tioga County Boys Track & Field Outstanding Newcomer, Knefley earned a pair of 3rd-place finishes at the NTL Championships this Spring .. in the 1600m and the 3200m .. and placed just out of the medals in the 1600 at Districts.

Marek Mascho, Wellsboro, sophomore (football, golf, basketball) .. pulled double-duty in the Fall, playing in six golf matches for the Hornets with an average of 107 and a low-round of 91 .. and in football, was 39-88 for 390 yards passing, had 66 yards rushing, 80 yards receiving and 3 TDs. Scored 4 points per game for the Hornets’ basketball team, adding 36 rebounds, 33 assists and 17 steals. Mascho had a phenomenal baseball season as well, though it was not his ‘rookie’ season there, as he was named the All-Tioga County Newcomer of the Year for baseball last season as a freshman.
