'23-'24 ALL-TIOGA COUNTY 'SUPER 7' FEMALE NEWCOMERS OF THE YEAR (2024-06-26)

TIOGA COUNTY — There were a number of outstanding debuts made by area female underclassmen this past school year, recognized here with our 2023-24 All-Tioga County ‘Super 7’ Newcomers of the Year .. highlighted by Wellsboro freshman Lauren Kosek.

Kosek opened her varsity running career in the fall for the Wellsboro Cross Country team and was named the All-Tioga County Girls XC Runner of the Year after collecting a runner-up finish at the NTL Championships (20:04.34), a 9th place finish at Districts (19:45) and a 40th place finish at the State Championships (20:29). 

In the Spring, Kosek finished 3rd in both the 1600m and the 3200m at the NTL Championships for the Wellsboro Track & Field team and won a pair of District medals, taking 6th in the 1600m and 3rd in the 3200m.

Maeve Ficks, Williamson, freshman (soccer, basketball, T&F) .. scored six goals and had two assists for the Lady Warriors soccer team, came off the bench for the 19-5 basketball team and averaged 2.4 points per game with 40 rebounds, 17 assists and 26 steals and was a consistent point gainer for the Track & Field team and earned an 8th place District 4 medal as part of the Lady Warriors’ 4x100m relay team.

Jaci Fairchild, North Penn-Mansfield, freshman (XC, T&F) .. placed 6th at the NTL XC meet (21:14) before winning a 5th-place medal at Districts (20:42) and finishing 64th at States (21:53) in her varsity debut for the Lady Tigers. In Track, Fairchild medaled at Districts in the 3200m (8th) while finishing 16th in the 1600m. Was 6th in the NTL in the 3200m and 7th in the 1600m.

Raegan VanGorden, Williamson, sophomore (VB, T&F) .. had 602 assists for the Lady Warriors volleyball team and added 231 points with 84 aces, 215 digs and 38 kills. Was a consistent point-winner for the Track & Field team and was a part of the Lady Warriors’ 12-place finishing 4x800m relay team at Districts.

Piper Hoprich, Wellsboro, freshman (T&F) .. the All-Tioga County Female Athlete of the Spring was second in both the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes at the NTL meet, then won District 4 titles in both sprints and had a phenomenal showing at the State Championships, bringing home a bronze medal in the 200 and a 4th-place finish in the 100.

Olivia Gee, Williamson, freshman (volleyball, softball) .. played in 20 sets for the 15-6 Lady Warriors volleyball team and went 7-2 for the 11-11 softball team over 51 innings pitched with a 2.49 ERA and 49 strikeouts. The All-Tioga County Softball Rookie of the Year was a valuable lead-off hitter with an on-base-percentage of .355 and a .234 batting average with 15 base hits (including a home run and a double), 23 runs scored and seven RBI.

Taylor Main, Wellsboro, sophomore (volleyball, T&F) .. had 149 assists, 102 digs, 149 points, 21 aces and 7 kills for the Lady Hornets volleyball team and was 9th in the NTL in the 100m hurdles and 10th in the 300m hurdles.
