COLLEGE BASEBALL: WELLSBORO'S ADAMS COMPLETES SUMMER LEAGUE PLAY IN MYRTLE BEACH (2024-08-14)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportWellsboro’s Conner Adams, a soon-to-be sophomore for the Mansfield University Mountaineers baseball team, spent a portion of his summer playing for the Briarcliffe Seagulls of the Beach Collegiate Baseball League in Myrtle Beach.
The BCBL provides a wood bat college summer baseball league in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The league consists of collegiate players from all across the country from d1, d2, d3, juco & NAIA schools. It also has college players from colleges outside the country who come to play in the summer.
While the league’s schedule is super condensed, Adams was appreciative of the many reps he was able to get both at the plate and in the field.
“We played 22 games in 28 days and I played every game either at 2nd base or at shortstop,” says Adams, “It was so beneficial for me because I was able to get 60-plus at-bats in a short amount of time, and also more then 20 games at positions I hope to earn the starting role at for Mansfield next year.”
Adams believes he took a big step in his development as a college baseball player during his month-long stay.
“I got to play with guys from all around the country from all types of levels from d1 to juco,” says Adams, “learning tips from all types of players and being able to see more pitches and get more in-game defensive reps will only help me for being ready to play next year. I also got to work on base stealing, which is one of my strong suits that I improved even more on.”
It also was not lost on Adams how nice of a location he was playing ball in.
“Being in Myrtle Beach was fun,” says Adams, “I could have a doubleheader at 8 in the morning and finish the night off with dinner on the beach .. it was a pretty unbeatable experience for a 20-year old kid from PA. I have to give a huge shout-out to my family for making it possible."
Adams will be entering his second year with the Mounties after working his way up the MU depth chart as a freshman last season.
