HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY: WELLSBORO'S KOSEK WINS LASAGNA INVITE TITLE, MACIAS RUNNER-UP IN BOYS RACE (2024-09-06)

WYALUSING — Lauren Kosek ran a personal best 19:41 to win the girls’ race at the Lasagna Invite at Wyalusing on Friday while Max Macias was the runner up in the boys’ competition.

Kosek, a sophomore, was the only female runner to break the 20-minute mark on the afternoon.

Wellsboro finished the girls race in 6th overall with 121 places. Elk Lake won the race with 42 places followed by Towanda (51), Wyalusing (73), North Penn-Mansfield (102), and Sullivan County (110).

Junior Sophia Yoder finished 26th in 26:40, freshman Molly Tice (27:34) was 29th, senior Karah Blackwell (28:35) took 31st, freshman Anja Przybycien (29:38) finished 34th and freshman Luisa Crocco (33:59) was 38th.

In the boys race the Hornets finished 4th as a team with 94 places to edged out Sullivan County (105) and North Penn-Mansfield (123). Towanda (37) won the race with Wyalusing (69) and Canton (82) finishing in 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

Macias, a junior, paced the Hornets with a 2nd place finish in 17:15 while junior Henry Whitney (19:04) finished 8th. Junior Ethan Geneski (22:05) finished 25th, freshman Lane Cozby (22:13) was 26th, freshman Jack Hammerton (24:09) came in 33rd and junior Henry Nowak (25:43) rounded out the team in 35th.

The Hornets are back in action on Tuesday against Northeast Bradford and Troy.
