HIGH SCHOOL BOYS SOCCER: HORNETS FALL IN NON-LEAGUE MATCH-UP WITH HUGHESVILLE (2024-09-21)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportWELLSBORO — The Hornets surrendered five first half goals to Hughesville and couldn’t catch up to the Spartans, losing 5-3 in non-league boys soccer action Saturday.
Hughesville’s Carter Gormont scored all five goals for the Spartans.
Alex Citrino scored a goal for Wellsboro in the first half of an assist from Lucas Cuneo, then found the net again less than three minutes into the second half on an assist by David Seeling. Micaiah Fitch scored the final Hornet goal on a penalty kick midway through the second.
Both teams had eight shots on goal and Hughesville held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
The Hornets suffer just their second loss of the season .. both non-league matches .. and return to league play Monday when they host NTL-foe Athens.
