NTL BOYS SOCCER: WELLSBORO TOPS NORTH PENN-LIBERTY 6-2 (2024-09-25)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportWELLSBORO — The Hornets got a hat trick from senior Alex Citrino and rolled to a 6-2 win over North Penn-Liberty in NTL boys soccer action here Wednesday.
Micaiah Fitch finished with a pair of goals and opened the scoring five minutes in on an assist from River Moyer. Citrino scored his first goal off a pass from David Seeling at the 26:11 mark of the first half, followed by a Seeling goal off a Jude Cuneo assist at the 13:32 mark. Fitch took a pass from Citrino and made it 4-0 Wellsboro with 11 minutes left in the first period.
Tate Strange scored for North Penn-Liberty off a free kick with just over 8 minutes remaining to make it 4-1 Wellsboro at the break. Brady Stetter cut Wellsboro’s lead to 4-2 just four minutes into the second half, finding the net on a penalty kick.
Citrino scored twice in the second half for Wellsboro .. at 21:07 & 5:07 .. off assists from Jude Cuneo and Moyer to seal the Hornet win.
“The boys moved the ball well and created goal scoring opportunities,” said Wellsboro Head Coach Todd Fitch, “We’re giving up too many goals on miscues and need to clean that up as we move forward. It was a good win for us.”
The Hornets held a 15-5 advantage in shots on goal and 12-3 in corner kicks.
Wellsboro keeper Camden Tom had three saves while Deakon Valentine had eight saves in net for the Mounties.
The Hornets (10-2) are scheduled to host Towanda next, on Saturday at 10 a.m., while NP-Liberty (6-5-1) is scheduled to host Williamson, also on Saturday at 10 a.m.
