NTL FOOTBALL: PANTHERS FALL 59-20 TO 6-1 MUNCY ON THE ROAD (2024-10-04)

Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
MUNCY, PA —  Muncy’s Austin Johnson had a huge game on Friday night, rushing for 334 yards on just 12 carries to help the Indians cruise to a 59-20 win over North Penn-Mansfield.

Johnson found the endzone five times in the win, including having three first-quarter touchdown runs and scoring his final two before halftime.

Johnson had touchdown runs of 64, 22, 31, 82 and 6 yards in the first half. He scored his 63 yarder with 10:21 to play in the first quarter and then scored on a 22-yard run on Muncy’s next possession. With 5:32 to play, Johnson then had a 31-yard score.

Johnson helped Muncy build up a 27-0 lead after the first quarter, and that 27-point lead was too much for North Penn-Mansfield to come back from.

Muncy out-gained the visiting Panthers 505-298 in total yardage. NP-Mansfield’s first score came late in the second quarter when Riley Oakes caught a 7-yard TD pass from Cooper Shaw to avoid the shutout.

The Panthers were led by Shaw, who went 10 for 24 for 127 yards and had two touchdown passes. Luke Kreger caught six passes for 113 yards and a touchdown and Colton Pellett had three grabs for seven yards.

Oakes led the Panthers on the ground, collecting 61 yards on eight carries and scored from seven yards out on his final carry of the night. Shaw gained 48 yards on the ground on 20 carries.

Defensively, Shaw and George Valentine had four solo tackles each with Valentine adding two assisted stops.

The Panthers fall to 2-5 on the season with the loss. They’ll host undefeated Troy at Island Park next Friday night.
