NTL GIRLS SOCCER: WILLIAMSON HANDS ATHENS FIRST LEAGUE LOSS (2024-10-09)

Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
WESTFIELD — Williamson rallied from being down 1-0 at halftime to avenge an earlier-season loss to Athens and beat the Lady Wildcats 2-1 in an NTL girls soccer match-up here Wednesday.

Athens scored off their lone corner kick of the night and took a 1-0 lead into the break before the Lady Warriors came back with two second half goals to earn the “W”.

Maddie Bailey scored unassisted to tie the game at one early in the second half and Anna Lee scored the game-winner off a Torrie Stratton assist with 4:30 remaining.

Keeper Ashley Woodring recorded one save in net for the Warriors.

The loss is Athens’ first in league play and the Wildcats topped Williamson 2-0 in their previous meeting.

“The girls came out stronger than ever tonight,” said Warriors’ head coach Felisha Hackett, “The defense came to play, like always, the girls worked together and saw the whole field. The weather was not ideal, but we fought through it. We’re very proud of them tonight.”

Williamson (10-5) returns to action on Tuesday at Wellsboro.
