NTL FOOTBALL: PANTHERS LATEST VICTIM OF POWERHOUSE TROJANS, FALL 56-13 (2024-10-11)

BLOSSBURG — The Troy Trojans continued to roll through the league on Friday night at Island Park in Blossburg, blowing past North Penn-Mansfield 56-13 in NTL action.

The Trojans racked up 35 first quarter points en route to the win, scoring three touchdowns in the final three minutes of the opening frame.

The Panthers got on the scoreboard with 39 seconds left in the first half when Cooper Shaw hit Riley Oakes with a 19-yard scoring strike for a 49-6 score at the break.

Troy's Brendan Gilliland started the night’s scoring with two big running plays for touchdowns. He ran 52-yards for a score just over a minute into the game and Gavin Lykon-Leffler made it 7-0 with the PAT. Gilliland then scored from 75-yards out with 5:10 on the clock in the first and Troy’s kick was good for the 14-0 lead.

Reed Palmer then made it 21-0, after Lykon-Leffler’s kick, with a 3-yard run at the 2:43 mark of the opening frame. With 28 seconds to play Evan Woodward hit Lincoln Chimics for a 6-yard scoring strike, and with 10 seconds left, Mason Smith recovered a fumble in the end zone. Lykon-Leffler hit both extra points for the 35-0 lead.

Troy would get two passing touchdowns in the second quarter before the Panthers got their score to avoid the shutout and the Trojans led 49-6 at the break.

NP-Mansfield got a second touchdown with 3:21 left in the third quarter on a 51-yard George Perry run to make it 49-13, and Troy immediately answered as Smith returned the ensuing kick-off for a score. Lykon-Leffler finished off the day 8-for-8 on extra points for the 56-13 final.

Shaw finished with 101 yards passing and a score while completing 12-of-28 attempts. Luke Kreger had eight receptions for 72 yards and Oakes had two catches and a score with 27 yards. Perry rushed for 49 yards on five carries with a TD to lead the Panther ground game. 

North Penn-Mansfield, now 2-6 on the season, will return to play next Saturday night when they host Cowanesque Valley (3-5).
