HIGH SCHOOL BOYS SOCCER: HORNETS EDGED 3-2 BY MONTOURSVILLE (2024-10-12)

Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
MONTOURSVILLE — The Wellsboro boys soccer team lost for just the third time this season on Saturday as the Hornets were edged 3-2 by non-league foe Montoursville.

The host Warriors took a 2-0 lead, scoring five minutes into the game and again with 10 minutes left in the first half, before Wellsboro’s Alex Citrino found the net on a penalty shot with 24 seconds left before the break.

Citrino tied the game at two to open the second half and Montoursville hit the game winner at the 11:25 mark to seal the win.

“It wasn’t the start we had planned for, but it was the response we were pleased to see,” said Wellsboro head Coach Todd Fitch,  “Trailing by two goals, the boys continued to battle and scored two unanswered goals to tie the game. They created additional opportunities in the second half, but just couldn’t find that third goal after Montoursville took the lead on a PK.”

Montoursville held an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal and Wellsboro had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. Keeper Camden Tom made two saves in net for the Hornets.

Wellsboro (14-3) has one regular season game remaining before the District 4 playoffs start as they’ll visit Loyalsock on Tuesday to take on the 8-5 Lancers.
