ROME — North Penn-Mansfield’s James Knefley had a top five finish during the varsity boys’ race at the NTL Coaches’ Invitational on Saturday.

Knefley (17:15.8) came in fifth overall, but was as high as third at one point during the race.

“It was OK,” Knefley said about this race. “I could have done better in some spots, but I’ve been struggling with an injury.”

He ran in the pack behind the leaders - Wellsboro’s Max Macias, NEB’s Ryan Jones, and Canton’s Lawrence Halbfoerster.

“It’s exciting because we’re kind of all friends,” Knefley said. “It’s fun to see them in the race.”

Knefley will be hoping to get back to states at the District IV Championships in two weeks.

“I would say I need a little bit of recovery time to come back stronger,” he remarked. “I feel like I can come back and qualify for states.”

The Tigers took seventh overall with 172 points.

Cedric Miller (19:30.5) took 34th, Braden Vanloon (20:34.7) came in 51st, Isaiah VanLoon (20:47.7) was 53rd, and Luke Tice (22:06.6) rounded out the top five in 65th.

The Lady Tigers took sixth overall with 131 points.

Carolyn Cherwinski (24:10.2) was 23rd to lead NPM, while Nora Furry (24:30.4) took 26th, and Jaci Fairchild (24:38.7) was 27th.

Kendelle Holleran (24:50.2) took 30th, and Alivia Lisowski (27:03.7) came in 42nd.
