NTL FOOTBALL: HORNETS WIN BATTLE OF 1-7 TEAMS, ROUTS NORTHWEST AREA (2024-10-18)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportSHICKSHINNY, PA — The Hornets picked up their second win of the season on the road Friday night, rolling to a 46-0 win over Northwest Area.
Wellsboro had five interceptions in the game and freshman QB Griffin Morral threw three touchdown passes and rushed for another as the Hornets scored 39 first half points.
Morral hooked up with Jonathan Carl on a 4-yard TD pass with six minutes left in the opening frame and Ryder Bowen scored with under a minute left and the Hornets led 14-0 after Morral ran in the 2-point conversion after Carl’s PAT attempt following their first score was blocked.
Bowen, Marek Mascho, Reed Richardson, Asher Davenport and Wyatt Davenport all came up with interceptions, while Evan Ingerick had a fumble recovery for Wellsboro.
Morral punched a score in from the 1-yard line just 12 seconds into the second quarter, then hit Mascho with a 3-yard TD and Carl again, this time from 14 yards out, to put the Hornets up 32-0.
Bowen scored his second TD of the game from 9 yards out with just over a minute left in the half and Carl’s extra point gave Wellsboro a 39-0 lead at the break.
After a scoreless third quarter, Richardson would score with under two minutes remaining on a 2-yard run and Finn Matthews kick provided the 46-0 final.
Lincoln DeCoursey and Ingerick each recorded a pair of sacks while Levi Champaign had six tackles and a sack, Mascho added three tackles and Bowen had two.
Wellsboro (2-7) has one game remaining as they'll host rival North Penn-Mansfield (2-6) next Friday night in the annual Morton F. Jones Trophy game.
