HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY: COWANESQUE VALLEY TRIO COMPETES AT STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS (2024-11-02)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportHERSHEY — CV’s Natalie Yonker just missed the medals at the PIAA Cross-country Championships Saturday, taking 33rd in the Class AA girls’ race in 20:31.
She missed a medal by 30 seconds as she was the third highest freshman finisher in the race.
“It was definitely an experience,” Yonker remarked. “I really enjoyed it. I think that I have made a lot progress to make, but I’m so happy with how far I came. I know I put on so much work to get here.”
Yonker made up a lot of ground as the race went on, starting out in 56th at the 800. She was 54th at the mile, 44th at the halfway point, then dropped down to 37th with 1,000 meters left to go.
“It felt really good,” Yonker said about picking people off. “I was really happy that I still had the push. I was a little worried, I started out pretty quickly, but I knew I was ready for it.”
Teammate Torrina Stratton was 146th in 22:13.
In the boys’ Class A race Hunter Simonds took 111th in 18:51.
