NTL BOYS SOCCER: NORTH PENN-LIBERTY ENJOYS COMPETITIVE '24 SEASON (2024-11-17)

LIBERTY, PA — The North Penn-Liberty boys soccer team continued making strides in 2024, competing with the league’s top teams and winning the most games since the early 2000’s. 

Head Coach Matt Grinnell and the Mounties went 11-6-1 in the regular season .. 7-4-1 in the NTL. 

NP-Liberty lost twice to undefeated champ Wellsboro while their other two league losses came to runner-up Athens .. 1-0 in overtime .. and to third place Williamson, who the Mounties also beat during the season. 

Liberty’s tie was against the 2nd place Wildcats, while one of their “non-league” losses came in double overtime to Williamson in the season-opening Galeton tournament. 

The Mounties rolled through the rest of their NTL schedule, collecting wins over Troy, Galeton, Towanda and Northeast Bradford and outscoring their opponents 30-10. 

Their 11 wins was a one-win improvement from last season, and up from a 6-win 2022 and 8 wins in ’21 when the Mounties’ current senior class were freshmen.

Seniors Brady Stetter and Adynn Wheeland each scored 16 goals to lead the Mounties, with Stetter finishing his career with 59 goals. The pair accounted for 15 assists .. Stetter with 9 and Wheeland with 6 .. while classmate Tate Strange added 8 goals and 7 assists.

Juniors Bryce Kent and Truman Loudenslager and freshman Mason Forer each scored 2 goals while Forer and Kent had 3 assists each and Loudenslager had 2. Juniors Brody Grinnell, Deakon Valentine and George Bishop and sophomores Kolton Alexander and Parker Jackson all had an assist on the year. 

Grinnell, Bishop, Jackson and senior Louis Mercantino held down the Mounties’ defense while keeper Valentine played 1,440 minutes in net and had a 2.0 goals-against-average and 168 saves with 2 shutouts. 

The Mounties qualified for the District IV playoffs and entered as the No. 9 seed, where they’d fall in the first round to No. 8 Warrior Run, 4-0, to bring their 2024 season to an end.
