NTL VOLLEYBALL: WILLIAMSON LADY WARRIORS HAVE HIGHLIGHT-FILLED SEASON (2024-11-17)

Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
TIOGA JUNCTION, PA — The Williamson volleyball team used a nice mix of underclassmen and senior leadership to enjoy a solid 2024 season.

Head Coach Nicole VanGorden guided the Lady Warriors to 13 wins on the season .. including six straight to start the season and a District IV Class 2A quarterfinal win over league foe North Penn-Liberty.

The Warriors opened the season by handing eventual NTL large school champion Troy one of only two losses the Trojans would suffer in the regular season, then collected five more wins, including a 3-0 sweep of ’21 D4 champ Wyalusing and a 3-2 win over Canton.

The Lady Warriors from Canton would eventually end Williamson’s season-opening streak two weeks later, and Williamson rebounded for a pair of sweeps over CV and Sayre before falling to small school champ and Class A champion Northeast Bradford for just their second loss.

Another win over Wyalusing and a 3-2 win over Liberty preceded a 3-1 loss to District IV champ Wellsboro and a second loss to NEB. The Lady Warriors finished their regular season with sweeps of CV and Athens to finish 12-4 and earn the No. 4 seed for Districts. There they topped No. 5 seed NP-Liberty and then had their season come to a close with a loss to Wellsboro on the Lady Hornets run to the 2A title.

The Lady Warriors enjoyed production from throughout their lineup, with both underclassmen and seniors contributing throughout the season and a pair of Warriors reaching impressive milestones.

Senior libero Joelie Stephens (154 pts., 25 aces, 28 kills, 42 assists) had 293 digs on the season and reached 1,000 for her career, while junior Raegan VanGorden (198 pts., 61 aces, 308 digs, 69 kills) reached 1,000 assists with her 562 on the year.

Senior Leah Earle (209 kills, 193 pts., 61 aces, 242 digs), juniors Abby Gehman (180 kills, 109 pts., 43 aces, 88 digs) and Maddy Jones (82 kills, 12 blocks, 64 digs) and sophomore Olivia Nolan (98 kills, 98 pts., 32 aces, 7 blocks, 56 digs) provided a formidable front line for the Warriors and sophomores Aubrey Wells (57 kills, 11 blocks, 35 digs), Olivia Gee (125 pts., 31 aces, 106 digs) and Bailey Snyder (64 pts., 26 aces, 145 digs) all made big contributions for Williamson.

The Warriors also celebrated the return of senior leader Sophie Sargent (30 sets played, 22 kills, 55 pts., 10 aces, 7 blocks, 66 digs), who had missed her entire junior season and most of this year with injuries.

Coach VanGorden and assistant Lindsea Rush will say goodbye to seniors Sargent, Stephens and Earle but will welcome back a very strong core as the Warriors look forward to the 2025 season.
