NTL GIRLS SOCCER: WILLIAMSON HAS SUCCESSFUL SEASON DESPITE LOW NUMBERS (2024-11-20)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportTIOGA JUNCTION, PA — The Williamson girls soccer team overcame low numbers to win 10 league games on the season and finish behind only champion Troy in the NTL standings.
First year Head Coach Felisha Hackett guided the Lady Warriors, who had just 15 players on the roster and often played with just two available substitutes, to a 12-6 regular season record and a No. 7 seed in the District IV Class 2A playoffs.
A somewhat slow start to the season .. with wins over Northeast Bradford (2-14-2) and Wellsboro (5-11-2) and losses to Troy (18-2), Selinsgrove (14-4), Athens (11-8) and Muncy (13-5) .. led to a stretch where the Warriors went 10-1 with their lone loss coming against Troy, 1-0, and they outscored their opponents 33-7.
Included in the run was a series-evening win over Athens and league wins over NEB, NP-Mansfield twice, Towanda twice, Wellsboro for the second time, Wyalusing twice and a non-league win over Campell-Savona.
The Warriors dropped their final regular season game 1-0 to Hughesville (13-4-1) and faced Troy for the third time in the first round of the playoffs. The No. 2 seeded Lady Trojans brought Williamson’s season to an end with a 4-0 win.
Williamson scored 38 goals on the year, while allowing 20 in the regular season. Senior keeper Ashley Woodring had 134 saves in net for the Warriors and got help from her defense to record 8 shutouts. That strong Warrior “D” was led by senior Mariah Buck, juniors Starr Ordway and Liv Morgan and senior Jade Colwell.
Maddy Bailey led the Warriors with 10 goals and 10 assists, while junior Anna Lee had 8 goals and 6 assists, junior Zeraya Wilson had 7 goals and 7 assists and senior Ella Churchill had 4 goals and 6 assists.
Senior Torrie Stratton had 3 goals and 4 assists and sophomore Robyn Cummings and senior Olivia Meisner each had 2 goals. Sophomore Alexis Sprague, senior Delaney Owens and Ordway each scored a goal and Colwell and freshman Addy Lanzo each had an assist.
