NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: TIGERS TOP MOUNTIES IN SOUTHERN TIOGA BATTLE (2024-12-10)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportMANSFIELD — The host North Penn-Mansfield Tigers put four players into double figures while building a big first half lead and held North Penn-Liberty off, beating the Mounties 66-49 in a Southern Tioga match-up here Tuesday.
Alex Davis led the way for NPM, scoring 13 points, while Brady Stetter had 12, Cooper Shaw scored 11 and Andy Hermansen had 10 in the well-balanced Tiger attack. Jason Harer added 8 points off the bench, Tate Strange had 5 points, Kaidyn Choplosky had 3 and Patrick Youmans and Kevin Clemente-Vasquesz each chipped in with 2 points.
Stetter .. 13 rebounds .. and Shaw .. 10 rebounds .. each recorded a double-double for NP-Mansfield while Davis had 6 steals.
The Tigers took an early 17-6 lead on the Mounties as Hermansen scored 7 first quarter points, then exploded for a 23-12 second quarter to extend their lead to 40-18 at the break.
North Penn-Liberty came out of the locker rooms and would win the second half .. 31-26 .. but it wouldn’t be enough to catch up to the Tigers’ deep bench as NPM had seven players score in the final frame to secure the rivalry win.
Louis Mercantino led the Mounties with 13 points while Evan McTish had 9 points and Luke Kreger added 8. Sudan Benner scored 6 points, Adynn Wheeland, Landon Mattern and Ryan Johnson each had 3 points and Ayden Phommamayong and Blake Oakley each had 2 points.
North Penn-Mansfield stays unbeaten on the season at 3-0 with the win, while North Penn-Liberty falls to 1-3 with the loss. The Tigers are scheduled to return to play next Tuesday with a trip to Canton, while Liberty is slated to host Athens on Thursday.
