NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: NORTH PENN-MANSFIELD EDGES NORTH PENN-LIBERTY BEHIND LIGHTNER DOUBLE-DOUBLE (2024-12-13)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportLIBERTY — In an NTL / Southern Tioga battle here Friday night, North Penn-Mansfield earned bragging rights and a league win by beating North Penn-Liberty 37-33.
The Lady Mounties took an 11-7 lead after the first quarter of play behind 5 points from Haley Litzelman, but Mansfield answered with a 10-4 second frame .. with 4 points by Reagan Watkins and 3 each from Kameron Lightner and Maddie McNamara .. to take a 17-15 advantage into the break.
Lightner scored 7 points in a 14-12 Lady Tiger third quarter and Mansfield made the 4-point lead hold up as the teams drew even at 6-6 in the final quarter.
Lightner finished with a double-double of 10 points and 16 rebounds and added 3 assists and 2 steals, while Avalon Rew had 9 points and 8 rebounds in the win. McNamara had 6 points and 6 steals, Watkins had 6 points and 8 rebounds and Elaina Shaw added 4 points and 3 rebounds.
Litzelman had a game-high 13 points for the Mounties, while Kendall Graham had 9, Kaylee Graham had 5, Lasha Roupp had 4 and Olivia Smith had 2 points.
Both teams struggled from the free throw line, as NP-Mansfield was 5-of-13 and Liberty was 1-of-8.
North Penn-Mansfield (2-3) is scheduled to host CV next Wednesday, while North Penn-Liberty (1-2) is at Athens, also next Wednesday.
