HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: WARRIORS CROWN CHAMP, PLACE NINE TO FINISH 2ND AT STWOA HOLIDAY CLASSIC (2024-12-14)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportJAMESTOWN, NY — Williamson took 2nd place at the STWOA Holiday Wrestling Classic at Jamestown Community College on Saturday, crowning one champion with 8 other wrestlers reaching the podium.
Freshman Zander Wilson went 4-0 on the day with a pair of tech falls to win the 108-pound title for the Warriors, while classmate Walker Hyde went 5-1 with 4 pins and a major decision and placed 3rd.
Three Warriors took 4th place, as freshman Kohen Flynn went 6-2 at 138 pounds, junior Ben Freeman went 4-2 with 4 falls at 215 and junior Luke Sottolano went 4-2 with 3 falls and who’s two losses came by sudden victory and on a tiebreak criteria at 285 pounds.
Junior Hunter Simonds placed 5th at 124 pounds, going 6-2 in the tourney with a pin, a TF and 2 major decisions, while freshman Steve Olson went 2-3 at 160 pounds and senior Tim Freeman went 3-3 at 190 pounds as both placed 6th. Junior Anthony Baker went 4-2 with a fall, 2 tech falls and a major decision win at 152 pounds to finish in 7th place.
First year senior Clayton Webster went 2-2 with 2 falls at 131 pounds, while freshman Lhandyn Nauman (145) and sophomore Harlow Little (190) each lost their first 2 matches to end their tournament.
The Warriors scored 192 team points, good for 2nd place among the 26 teams in attendance, while tourney champ St. Francis (NY) scored 258 points.
