NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: MOUNTIES CAN'T HOLD LEAD IN LOSS TO NEB (2024-12-19)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportLIBERTY — North Penn-Liberty held a slim, halftime lead over visiting Northeast Bradford, but the Panthers rallied to earn a 50-47 small school win over the Mounties here Thursday night.
NP-Liberty took an 11-10 lead after the first quarter behind 5 Adynn Wheeland points, then extended their halftime lead to 21-18 as Louis Mercantino and Evan McTish each scored 4 points in the second frame.
Wheeland finished with a game-high 18 points while Mercantino added 11 points, McTish had 8 and Luke Kreger and Blake Oakley each had 5 points in the loss. Mercantino grabbed 10 rebounds while McTish had 12 and Oakley had 7 boards.
NEB took the lead with an 18-14 third quarter and hit just enough free throws in the fourth (5-11) to eke out the win.
Liberty was 6-of-10 from the foul line in the game while NEB hit 10-of-19 overall.
The Mounties drop below .500 with the loss at 3-4. They’re off until after Christmas .. scheduled to host Muncy on Friday, December 27th.
