NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: NORTH PENN-LIBERTY HOLDS OFF WILLIAMSON FOR SMALL SCHOOL WIN (2025-01-08)

LIBERTY — The Lady Mounties used a big third quarter to open up a close game and held off Williamson’s fourth quarter comeback attempt to earn a 41-36 NTL small school win here Wednesday night. 

North Penn-Liberty used six early points from Haley Litzelman and took an 11-5 lead on the visiting Lady Warriors at the end of the first quarter. 

Williamson opened the second quarter with five straight points, including a Kenna Thomas 3-pointer that cut the Liberty lead to 11-10 midway through the second frame. A Litzelman three made it 14-10 and Williamson’s Olivia Meisner hit a jumper in the lane to make it 14-12. Olivia Smith gave Liberty a four point lead before Bailey Snyder kept Williamson to within two with a jumper and the Mounties led 16-14 as the teams headed to the locker rooms.

Litzelman finished with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds and added six assists, six steals and four blocked shots to lead North Penn-Liberty while Thomas finished with 11 points to lead Williamson. 

Snyder opened the third quarter with a bucket to tie the game at 16 before Liberty went on a 9-0 run that included baskets by Ciara Kieser, Olivia Smith and five points from Kaylee Graham. Madisen Jones hit a three to pull Williamson back to within six and a Meisner score cut the deficit to four at 25-21.

Scores from Kendall Graham and Smith and another jumper by Meisner gave the Mounties a 29-23 lead before Litzelman finished the quarter with two 3-pointers and Liberty led 35-23 as they headed to the final quarter. 

Williamson opened the last quarter with an 8-0 run as Thomas hit a three, Aubrey Wells made a free throw, Snyder hit a jumper and Thomas put back a miss to make it 35-31 with less than four minutes left in the game. 

Kaylee Graham put Liberty’s lead back to six and Wells cut it back to four with a jumper with 2:40 remaining. Smith hit a jumper in the lane to put NPL up 39-33 before Snyder made a free throw and hit a jumper to make it 39-36 with a minute and a half left. 

Williamson forced a Liberty miss with 40 seconds left but missed their own shot at the other end before Kaylee Graham scored to complete the scoring with 14 seconds left. A Williamson jumper with five seconds left was blocked by Smith to seal the win for the Mounties. 

Kaylee Graham finished with 10 points, six rebounds and three assists for Liberty in the win while Smith had eight points, eight rebounds and three assists, Ciara Kieser had six points and four rebounds and Kendall Graham had two points, four rebounds and two blocks. 

For Williamson, Snyder had nine points while Meisner had six points, Jones had five, Wells had three points and Avery Vinsek chipped in with two points.

North Penn-Liberty and Williamson, both 4-5 on the season, will each return to action Friday with the Mounties visiting Canton and the Lady Warriors hosting Cowanesque Valley.
