NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: HUGE SECOND HALF TURNAROUND LIFTS CV TO WIN OVER WILLIAMSON (2025-01-10)

TIOGA JUNCTION — It was a game of two halves here Friday night as Cowanesque Valley came back from a 17 point halftime deficit against Williamson and outscored the Lady Warriors 33-7 in the second half to claim a 56-47 NTL small school win. 

Williamson jumped out to a 17-3 first quarter lead and led 21-5 before CV scored the final 5 points of the opening frame to cut the Lady Warriors’ lead to 21-10. Olivia Meisner led the way for Williamson with 10 early points, while Ashley Woodring scored 6 for CV.

Balanced scoring for the Warriors led to a 19-13 advantage as Aubrey Wells scored 5 second quarter points and Madisen Jones and Olivia Nolan added 4 each to give Williamson a 40-23 lead at the break. 

CV turned up the pressure defense in the third quarter and held Williamson to just 5 points while Ella Churchill scored 9 for the Lady Indians, Starr Ordway added 5 points and Woodring had 4. 

Wells scored Williamson’e lone basket in the fourth quarter and Churchill (6) and Woodring (4) led CV to a 14-2 advantage to provide the final.

Churchill and Woodring scored 21 points each in the win, while Ordway had 9 points, Lily Vargeson had 4 points and Jessie Quick chipped in with 1 point. 

For Williamson, Meisner finished with 12 points while Wells and Bailey Snyder had 10 each, Madisen Jones had 6, Nolan had 4, Avery Vinsek had 3 and Kenna Thomas scored 2 points.

Williamson falls to 4-6 on the season with the loss, while CV evens their overall record at 5-5. 

The Warriors are scheduled to visit Wellsboro on Monday while CV hosts Northeast Bradford on Wednesday.
