NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: NORTH PENN-MANSFIELD FALLS TO TOWANDA (2025-01-15)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportMANSFIELD — The Lady Tigers chipped away at a big Towanda halftime lead but couldn’t complete the comeback and fell to the Lady Black Knights 65-52 here Wednesday.
Towanda jumped out to a double-digit lead at 18-8 after a quarter of play and extended their lead to 37-20 at the break. Mansfield got 6 points from Claire Dominick in a 17-11 third to cut the Towanda lead to 48-37 as they went to the final frame.
The Knights went up 51-39 early in the fourth quarter before the Tigers put together a 7-0 run that started with a Maddie McNamara free throw that was followed by the freshman coming up with a steal and a nice dish to Raegan Watkins to make it 51-42. Kameron Lightner got a steal for NPM and got it ahead to McNamara for a lay-up and after a Towanda miss, McNamara grabbed the rebound and found Lightner downcourt for a good jumper and the Tigers were within 5 at 51-46 with 5:45 left in the game.
Towanda answered with a 7-0 run of their own, however, and finished the game on a 14-6 run to secure the win.
McNamara finished with 19 points for North Penn-Mansfield, adding 7 rebounds, 6 steals and 4 assists, while Lightner had a double-double with 12 points and 17 boards and added 2 blocked shots while going 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
Dominick had 8 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists in the loss while Elaina Shaw had 7 points and Watkins had 6 points, 7 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.
Their third straight loss drops North Penn-Mansfield to 5-8 overall on the season. They’re scheduled to return to action Friday with a trip to Troy.
