NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: HORNETS PLAYOFF HOPES TAKES HIT WITH LOSS TO TOWANDA (2025-02-07)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportTOWANDA — Wellsboro took a hit to their playoff chances as the host Black Knights used a 22-2 third quarter to roll to a 56-27 win over the Hornets here Friday in an NTL Large School match-up.
Wellsboro drops below .500 at 10-11 with the loss and sits just outside the top eight of the 3A standings. They’re scheduled to host 4A Central Columbia (14-7) on Monday for their regular season finale. A win gets the Hornets into the playoffs while a loss ends their season.
Friday, Wellsboro fell behind the Black Knights 14-5 after a quarter of play before cutting the halftime deficit to 22-16 with an 11-8 second frame. Towanda’s big third quarter put the game out of reach and a 12-9 advantage in the fourth for Towanda provided the final.
Max and Marek Mascho scored 8 points each to lead Wellsboro while Mitchel Lechler had 5 points, Griffin Morral had 4 and Ransom Schultz scored 2 points.
