NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: MOUNTIES HAND CV SEASON ENDING LOSS (2025-02-11)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportWESTFIELD — North Penn-Liberty used a pair of big quarters to earn a 69-48 win over Cowanesque Valley here Tuesday in the Mounties’ regular season finale and the Indians’ last game of the 2024-’25 season.
Liberty ended their regular season strong .. winning their last four games and nine of their final 10 .. and the Mounties started off their game Tuesday with a 23-10 first quarter. Blake Oakley scored 11 early points to lead the Mounties into the second quarter, where Adynn Wheeland took over for NPL and scored 7 points to help extend the lead to 35-17 at the break.
Wheeland finished with a game-high 19 points, while Oakley added 16, as did Louis Mercantino, who scored 12 in a 25-point Liberty third quarter that put the Mounties up 60-30 going into the final frame.
Carsyn Kemp led CV to an 18-9 fourth quarter and finished with a team-high 18 points in the loss. Parker Lee added 12 points, Ashtyn Burdick had 8, Levi Stahli had 6 points and Jacob Johnson and Gavin Churchill scored 2 points apiece.
Mercantino recorded a double-double, adding 11 rebounds to his 16 points, while Oakley rounded out his stat line with 8 steals and 6 blocked shots. Luke Kreger scored 6 points and handed out 4 assists while Brody Grinnell had 5 points, Sudan Benner had 4 and Landon Mattern had 3 points for the Mounties.
Cowanesque Valley ends their season on a four game losing streak and with a final record of 3-19.
North Penn-Liberty (15-7), the NTL-II champs, hosts large school runner-up North Penn-Mansfield on Thursday in the first round of the NTL Showdown.
