HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL: NORTH PENN-MANSFIELD TO HOST SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT IN D4 3A PLAYOFF OPENER (2025-02-19)

MANSFIELD — North Penn-Mansfield earned the No. 3 seed in the District IV Class 3A boys basketball playoffs and opens the championships on Thursday when they host No. 6 seed South Williamsport. 

The Tigers finished the regular season with a 19-3 record, having fallen to non-league Montoursville and to large school champ Troy in both of their meetings with the Trojans. 

As runner-ups in the NTL-I, Mansfield earned a spot in the end-of-season league Showdown where they beat small school champ North Penn-Liberty in the first round before again falling to Troy in the final, leaving the Tigers at 20-4 as they enter District play.

The Tigers averaged over 61 points per game this season, led by Cooper Shaw’s 16 ppg. The senior also leads NPM in rebounding with 7.4 per game. 

Senior Alex Davis scores over 9 points per game and leads the Tigers with 4.4 assists and 3.2 steals per outing while senior Brady Stetter averages 8.6 points and 6 rebounds.

Senior Tayton Strange leads Mansfield with 40 threes on the season while Shaw has made 34, Davis has 18 and Andy Hermansen has 17.

South Williamsport averages 59 points per game and allows 53. While the two didn’t play each other this season, they have common opponents. Both mercy ruled Canton, South beat North Penn-Liberty by 7 in the season opener while Mansfield beat Liberty by 17 and SW beat St. John Neumann by double digits twice and the Tigers beat the Knights by 40 in their final regular season game.

With a quarterfinal win over South Williamsport the Tigers would play the winner between No. 2 seed Warrior Run (17-5) and No. 7 Towanda (13-9).

Tipoff for the Class 3A quarterfinal is set for 7 p.m. at North Penn-Mansfield High School. Tickets must be purchased in advance at piaad4.net/tickets/
