HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: WELLSBORO'S BOWEN CLAIMS FOURTH PLACE AT DISTRICTS, REGIONAL BERTH (2025-02-22)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportWILLIAMSPORT — Wellsboro’s Ryder Bowen kept his senior wrestling season going, qualifying for next week’s Northeast Regional after placing 4th at the District IV 2A championships on Saturday.
Bowen came into Districts as the 189 pound North Section champ and reached the semis with a 7-2 win Friday night. A loss to eventual runner-up Coy Bryson from Montgomery dropped Bowen into the consolation bracket, where he pinned Mifflinburg’s Landon Moser to reach the 3rd/4th place bout.
Bowen would lose for just the 5th time all season in the consi final, falling by a 15-11 decision to Montoursville’s Owen Kleinman. He’ll take his 29-5 record, sectional title and District 4th place finish into the Northeast Regional Championships next week.
Senior Silas Mickey just missed on advancing, as the 160-pounder won his Saturday morning consolation bout by pinning Central Columbia’s Crue Chipeleski, but lost 14-6 to NEB’s Kale Howland. His bid for the automatic qualification with a 7th place finish came up short as he lost 8-1 to Towanda’s Jace Gunther.
Mickey finishes his senior year with a 14-17 record.
Wellsboro’s three other District qualifiers, who all were knocked into the losers bracket on Friday night, fell in their first round consolation matches to knock them from the tournament.
133-pounder Mason Nowak was tech falled and finishes his junior season with a record of 13-19. Evan Ingerick was pinned by eventual 3rd-place finisher Kohen Shingara from Line Mt. and finishes his senior season with a 14-11 record, while 285-pounder Hayden Stevens was pinned in his final bout of the ’24-’25 season and finishes 22-11 on the year.
The Northeast Regionals will again take place at Williamsport High School next weekend. Check back here for a preview after brackets have been announced.
