Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
WILLIAMSPORT — Eight Tioga County wrestlers will be looking to clear their final hurdle to States at the Northeast Regional Championships this weekend, being held at Williamsport High School. 

North Penn-Liberty has four wrestlers competing .. sophomore Bryce Pequignot (114), freshman Bodhi Nickerson (107), senior Brayden Pequignot (127) and senior Riley Oakes (152) .. while Williamson has freshman Zander Wilson (107), junior Luke Sottolano (285) and junior Hunter Simonds (121) and senior Ryder Bowen (189) will represent Wellsboro.

107 Pounds
As the Sectional and District 4 champ, Wilson (38-0) enters Regionals as the No. 1 seed. He faces the winner between District 5th-place finisher Mason Alexander from NEB, who Wilson beat 8-2 at sectionals, and 6th-place winner Mason Kerstetter from Midd-West.

Nickerson (29-10), who placed 7th at Districts, faces Montgomery junior Manny Stoltzfus (42-7), who took 4th after falling to Wilson in the semis. The two wrestled at the D4 duals where Stoltzfus earned a fall over Nickerson. 

District 2 brings three wrestlers in, including champ Nathan Schuman (41-14), a freshman from Honesdale, runner-up Aiden Tanzini (27-8), a freshman from Blue Ridge and freshman 3rd-place finisher Chase Smith (40-7) from Hanover.

Stoltzfus pinned Schuman earlier this season while Schuman previously beat Nickerson.

114 Pounds
Bryce Pequignot (33-5) is the top seed after winning both a sectional and District IV title. He faces the winner between District 5th-place finisher Isaiah Harvey (30-10) from Wyalusing .. who Pequignot beat at both sectionals and Districts .. and Midd-West freshman Lane Yount (24-10), the 6th-place finisher at Districts.

District 2 brings in freshman champ CJ Caines (42-2) .. who Pequignot tech falled at the DKI this season .. Berwick junior Carmen Malt (32-4) and Tunkhannock senior Taylor Daniels (10-5).

121 Pounds
Simonds (32-10) reached Regionals with a 7th-place finish at Districts. He’ll face Towanda sophomore Curtis Maynard (22-12), who placed 4th last week. Maynard won by tech fall over Simonds in the sectional finals and in a dual meet this season. 

District 2’s top competitor .. Blue Ridge junior Brice Woodruff (28-9) .. was beaten 4-1 by Maynard earlier this year.

127 Pounds
Brayden Pequignot (26-9) placed 4th at Districts and faces Towanda junior Tanner Vanderpool (21-10), who took 7th. Pequignot beat Vanderpool 6-4 in the second round of consolations last weekend. 

District 2 brings in champ Sidney O’Donnell (4-0) from Dallas, runner-up Conner Novakowski (30-9) from Wyoming .. who Pequignot fell 15-10 to in a dual meet this season and pinned at last season’s regional championships .. and Honesdale junior Justin Scanlon (33-11).

152 Pounds
District 7th-place finisher Oakes (34-10) faces 4th-place winner Keagan Smith (36-9) from Hughesville. Smith topped Oakes 4-1 last weekend.

The District 2 champ, Richard Leslie (35-3) from Valley View, has been tech falled by Smith this season.

189 Pounds
Bowen (29-5) placed 4th at Districts, after having won a sectional title, and faces District 7th-place finisher Josh Worthington (25-8) from Central Columbia. 

With a win, Bowen would face District 2 champ Duke Martin (40-10) from Honesdale. Other wrestlers coming into the bracket are Lackawanna Trail’s Demetrius Douglas (26-7) and Kenny Martin (21-15), from Dallas.

285 Pounds
Sottolano (36-8), who placed 3rd at Districts, is the only Tioga County wrestler who starts his tourney with a match-up against a District 2 opponent. He’ll face Western Wayne junior Paul Borowski (24-12), the D2 runner-up. 

The District 2 champ and No. 2 seed Wyoming Area senior Nate Obrzut (38-5) is a common opponent, Obrzut has pinned Borowski twice this season while Sottolano was a 4-1 winner over Obrzut at the Southern Tier Memorial.

Wrestling begins Friday night at Williamsport High School with the pigtail matches followed by the quarterfinal bouts.
