HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: WILLIAMSON'S SOTTOLANO INTO REGIONAL SEMIS (2025-02-28)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportWILLIAMSON — Williamson’s Luke Sottolano advanced to the semifinals on the first day of the Northeast Region wrestling championships Friday night while teammates Zander Wilson and Hunter Simonds both fell into the consolation brackets.
Sottolano (285) had a bye into the quarterfinals where he pinned Western Wayne’s Paul Borowski in 1:29. He’ll advance to the semifinals and face top seed Mason Higley from Towanda. The two last met in the sectional final where Higley won 11-0.
Wilson was upended 8-7 in his quarterfinal bout by Northeast Bradford’s Mason Alexander. The freshman will face Montgomery’s Manny Stoltzfus .. who fell to North Penn-Liberty’s Bodhi Nickerson Friday night .. in Saturday morning’s consolation round 1. The two met in the District semifinals last week, with Wilson earning a 7-2 win.
Simonds was pinned in the first period by Mifflinburg’s Jack Gramly Friday night. He’ll face Towanda’s Curtis Maynard in the losers bracket Saturday morning. The two met in the sectional finals, where Maynard won by tech fall.
Wrestling continues at 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
