Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
WILLIAMSPORT — North Penn-Liberty sophomore Bryce Pequignot and senior brother Brayden each reached the semifinals of the Northeast Region wrestling championships Friday night, while teammates Bodhi Nickerson and Riley Oakes will try to wrestle back through the consolations after going 1-1 on Day 1.

Top-seeded Bryce Pequignot (114) had a bye into the quarterfinals, where he beat Wyalusing’s Isaiah Harvey 5-0. He’ll next face Montgomery freshman Liam Seeley, a 9-3 quarterfinal winner over Berwick’s Carmen Malt. Pequignot beat Seeley 11-3 earlier this season at the Turner Holiday Classic.

Brayden Pequignot (127) earned a second period fall over Towanda’s Tanner Vanderpool in the preliminary round, then beat Dallas senior Sidney O’Donnell 8-0 in the quarterfinals. He’ll face familiar foe Colton Wade from Sullivan County in the semis. In their most recent bout, Wade beat Pequignot by tech fall in the North Section finals.

Nickerson (107) earned a 4-2, pigtail round upset over two-time State qualifier Manny Stoltzfus from Montgomery before falling 3-0 to Honesdale freshman Nathan Schuman in the quarters. He’ll face Midd-West sophomore Mason Kerstetter in the first round of consolation bouts Saturday morning.

Oakes (152) earned a 6-5 win in his pigtail bout against Hughesville’s Keagan Smith before getting pinned by Valley View senior Richard Leslie in the quarterfinals. He’ll meet Benton sophomore Dylan Brokenshire in the blood round Saturday morning.

The Mounties are tied with Midd-West for 9th place as a team with 21 points. Montoursville leads with 63.5 points, followed by Mifflinburg (41.5), Towanda (41), Warrior Run (36.5), Montgomery (29), Line Mountain (27.5), Honesdale (25) and Lewisburg (22).

Wrestling continues at 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
