WILLIAMSPORT — Williamson had a pair of wrestlers punch their tickets to Hershey at the Northeast Regional Championships on Saturday, as junior Luke Sottolano (285) and freshman Zander Wilson (107) each placed 3rd to qualify for States.

After suffering his first loss of the season on Friday night, Wilson rebounded to win four straight matches on Saturday to claim the 107-pound bronze medal.

Wilson started his run through the consolation bracket by eliminating defending Regional champ Manny Stoltzfus with a 14-4 win over the Montgomery junior. He then knocked D2 runner-up Aidan Tanzini from Blue Ridge from the tourney with a 16-3 major decision, followed by a 16-9 win over 40-win Chase Smith from Hanover.

In the consolation final, Wilson, now 42-1 on the season, beat Southern Columbia junior Rowen Humphrey 6-0 to claim 3rd place.

Sottolano earned three pins on the weekend on his way to a 3rd-place finish .. one in his first bout against Western Wayne’s Paul Borowski, the District 2 runner-up, and two after Sottolano fell into the consolation bracket with a 5-0 loss to Regional champ Mason Higley from Towanda.

Sottolano pinned Warrior Run’s Noah Johnson in 1:48 to reach the consolation final, where he pinned Troy’s Reed Palmer in 4:24 to claim 3rd place. The junior will take a 39-9 season record to States.

Williamson’s remaining Regional qualifier, Hunter Simonds, was forced to default due to an injury during his first round consolation match against Towanda’s Curtis Maynard on Saturday morning.

Simonds finishes his junior season with a 32-12 record, a 2nd-place finish at Sectionals and his second straight 7th-place finish at Districts.
