HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: WILLIAMSON'S WILSON THROUGH TO STATE QUARTERS, SOTTOLANO ELIMINATED (2025-03-06)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportHERSHEY — Williamson freshman Zander Wilson advanced to the quarterfinals of the PIAA 2A Championships while junior Luke Sottolano suffered a pair of losses to bring his season to an end.
Wilson (107), the Sectional and District champ and NE Regional 3rd-place winner, beat Union City junior Van Ward, the Northwest Region runner-up, 10-1 to advance to Friday’s quarterfinal round. He’ll face Bishop McCort freshman Keegan Bassett.
Sottolano (285) started his first State Championships with a 4-1 loss to West Greene junior Colin Whyte, the SW Regional runner-up. In the first round of consolations, Sottolano was edged 1-0 by Big Spring freshman Blake Nutshell, the Southeast Regional 5th-place finisher, to end Sottolano’s season.
Sottolano finishes his junior season with a record of 39-11, as the runner-up at Sectionals and 3rd-place finishes at Districts and Regionals. He’ll take a career record of 84-39 into his senior season next year.
Wrestling resumes with the quarterfinal round and second round of consolation bouts at 8 a.m. on Friday morning.
