NTL GOLF: NPM'S GREEN TOPS LEADERBOARD, WELLSBORO SWEEPS NTL MATCH AT COREY CREEK (2021-09-07)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportMANSFIELD — North Penn-Mansfield’s Andrew Green won top honors on his home course of Corey Creek Tuesday, but Wellsboro had four golfers shoot a sub-100, allowing the Hornets to edge Athens by one stroke to take the match.
Blake Hamblin shot an 11-over 47 on his front nine to lead the Hornets, then had a six-over 42 on the back, giving him an 89 on the day. Only Green shot lower, as he had a 44 on the front and a three-over 39 on the back. Green had eight pars, while Hamblin had three pars and a birdie.
Wellsboro’s Hannalee Cleveland shot a 93 (46, 47) to tie for seventh place overall and Hayden Zuchowski had a 94 (46, 48). Each had three pars on the day. Andrew Merriman had a birdie and a par on his way to a 99, and Silas Jackson finished with a 104, with two pars. Reece Servatius rounded out the Wellsboro score for the day with a 117.
NPM went 0-6 on the day with a 510, as the Tigers had to forfeit two spots in their lineup. After Green, Bryanna Johnson was second for North Penn-Mansfield with a 131, while Katie Mossman shot a 147 and Brayden Pequignot had a 149.
Cowanesque Valley went 2-4 in the match, besting both North Penn-Mansfield and Towanda with their 446 total. Jordan Vargeson lead the way with a 96 (48, 48), followed by Julian Francis with a 110 (51, 59), Nick West with a 111 (57, 54), Gavin Stage with a 129 (66, 63) and Kaden Cole with a 138 (71, 67).
With the six wins, Wellsboro takes over the NTL lead with a 14-3 record. North Penn-Mansfield is winless at 0-17 while CV is 4-13.
Cowanesque Valley will host next week’s NTL match at River Valley on Tuesday.
