NTL BASEBALL: HORNETS DOWN TOWANDA FOR FIRST WIN (2025-03-27)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportWELLSBORO — The Hornets used a big third inning to take a lead on Towanda and held on to down the visiting Black Knights 9-6 for their first win of the season.
After taking an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a Gabe Sprouse single and eventual steal home, the Hornets gave up four runs to Towanda in the top of third.
Griffin Morral led of the bottom half of the third with a walk and Sprouse was hit by a pitch and Marek Mascho walked to load the bases. Cam Tennis singled to score Morral and Sprouse before Ryder Bowen hit into a fielder’s choice that left pinch runner Silas Pietrzyk at third and Bowen on first with two outs.
Cameron Owlett singled to score Pietrzyk and Gabę Cuneo singled to score Bowen. Owlett would later score on a passed ball to give the Hornets a 6-4 lead as they headed to the fourth.
Wellsboro scored two runs in the fourth, Towanda scored one in the fifth and the Hornets plated their final run in the sixth to secure the win.
Sprouse started and went six innings to earn the win, allowing five runs (1 earned) on six base hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Marek Mascho threw the final inning, striking out two.
Cuneo finished with two base hits and an RBI while Cameron Owlett had a hit, two RBI and two runs scored, Sprouse had a hit and scored three runs, Tennis had a hit and two RBI, Dustin Owlett and Bowen each had a hit and an RBI and Marek Mascho and Morral each scored a run.
Wellsboro (1-4) is scheduled to next host Jersey Shore, Saturday at 11 a.m.
