NT WEST SPORTS REPORT 'ALL-TIOGA COUNTY BOYS BASKETBALL' (2025-03-30)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportTIOGA COUNTY, PA — The West boys’ basketball teams had varying levels of success this season, but all had players that stood out for their performances .. none more so than the All-Tioga County Boys Basketball ‘Player of the Year”, North Penn-Mansfield senior Cooper Shaw.
Shaw helped the Tigers to a 19-3 regular season record and a 21-6 overall mark, including wins over every other NTL team besides large school and District champ Troy. He led Mansfield in scoring (15.6 ppg) and rebounding (7.4 rpg) and added 3.3 assists, 2.1 steals and a blocked shot per game while hitting 37 three-pointers, reaching double-digits in scoring in 22 of the Tigers’ games and recording seven double-doubles.
Shaw had a season-high 27 points in back-to-back games at the Josh Palmer Fund tourney to lead Mansfield to their third straight title there, and scored 30 points in the Tigers’ pair of lopsided wins over small school and District 4 Class A champ North Penn-Liberty. The three-year starter finished just 59 points shy of 1,000, grabbed 558 career rebounds and made 134 career three pointers.
The All-Tioga County ‘Offensive Player of the Year’ is Williamson senior Jack Nolan. The Warriors struggled to a 4-18 season .. beating Galeton (5-17) and Cowanesque Valley (3-19) each twice .. but Nolan scorched the nets for 20 points per game and added 10.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists a night.
North Penn-Liberty senior Blake Oakley is the ‘Defensive Player of the Year’ after helping the Mounties to small school and District 4 titles. Oakley collected 76 steals on the season (2.8/game) and blocked 39 shots (1.4/game) while running point for Liberty and adding 9.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.
Cowanesque Valley struggled to a three-win season, but sophomore Ashtyn Burdick is the ’Newcomer of the Year’ after scoring 13.5 points per game with 46 three-pointers in his first varsity season.
North Penn-Liberty Head Coach Bear Mattison and assistant coaches Kyle Bower and Travis Oakley led the Mounties to an 18-win season, just their fourth NTL small school championship ever and the school’s first-ever District 4 title, earning them the All-Tioga County ‘Coaching Staff of the Year’.
