NTL SOFTBALL: WILLIAMSON COMES BACK TO BEAT CANTON (2025-04-01)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportLAWRENCEVILLE — Williamson fell behind 4-0 early but rallied for eight unanswered runs and held on for a 13-8 win over the visiting Canton Lady Warriors here Tuesday.
After a scoreless first inning and Canton took a 4-0 lead in the top of the second, Williamson cut the deficit in half as Alexis Sprague drove in Joelie Stephens .. who had walked .. and Savanna Dean later plated Aubree Roe .. who had singled.
Williamson kept Canton off the board in the third and fourth and scored nine runs to take an 11-4 lead.
In the bottom of the third, Kenna Thomas and Kaegan Short each walked before Stephens scored them both with a single. A Roe walk and a Sprague sac fly scored Stephens and Roe would make it 6-4 for Williamson as they headed to the fourth.
Thomas doubled, Short was hit by a pitch and Stephens singled to load the bases and Laila Hackett cleared them with a single and a Canton error before Roe drove Hackett in with a single and scored herself on a Canton error off the bat of Dean to put Williamson up 11-4.
Canton cut the lead to 11-8 with a run in the fifth and three in the sixth before Williamson closed them out with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth on singles by Makayla Heichel and Dean, a sac bunt by Olivia Gee and an RBI single by Lexi Smalley.
Gee threw all seven innings for Williamson and earned the win, allowing eight runs (4 earned) on nine base hits and three walks with 12 strikeouts.
Stephens finished with three base hits, two RBI and two runs scored, while Roe had two hits, and RBI and scored three runs and Dean had two hits, an RBI and scored once.
Thomas had a double and scored twice, Hackett had a hit, two RBI and a run scored, Sprague had a hit and two RBI, Smalley had a hit and an RBI and Heichel had a hit and scored a run.
Now 5-1 on the season, Williamson is scheduled to return to action Thursday at Troy.
