NTL SOFTBALL: BLACK KNIGHTS HAND LADY MOUNTIES SECOND LOSS OF THE SEASON (2025-04-29) Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportMANSFIELD — North Penn-Liberty lost for just the second time this season, falling 4-2 to the visiting Towanda Lady Black Knights in NTL softball action here Tuesday.
The Lady Mounties out-hit Towanda .. seven to five .. but couldn’t compete with the Lady Knights ’small ball’ that produced four fifth-inning runs.
After two and a half scoreless innings, Liberty’s Haley Litzeman stroked a two-out double and Claire Dominick brought her home for a 1-0 lead. That would last until the top of the fifth as Towanda used numerous infield hits, a Mountie error and a pair of sacrifices to take a 4-1 lead that held up until North Penn-Liberty’s final at-bat in the bottom of the seventh.
The Mounties had their chances in the seventh, loading the bases with no outs as Maddie Smith singled and Addie Smith and Litzelman walked, but a sacrifice groundout by Dominick plated Liberty’s final run of the game as Towanda got out of the jam and avoided the comeback.
Litzelman finished with a pair of doubles while Dominick, Elyna Booth, Maddie Smith, Maddie McNamara and Kameron Lightner each had a base hit. Dominick had two RBI and Litzelman and Maddie Smith scored runs.
Booth was tagged with the loss, going all seven innings in the circle and allowing four unearned runs on five hits with no walks and 11 strikeouts.
North Penn-Liberty (9-2) is scheduled to host Troy on Thursday for their second meeting. The Lady Mounties won the first match-up, 3-2. _____
