NTL BASEBALL: TIGERS FALL TO TOWANDA DESPITE OAKES, SHAW HOMERS & DAVIS MILESTONE (2025-04-29)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportMANSFIELD — North Penn-Mansfield got home runs from Cooper Shaw and Riley Oakes and Alex Davis collected the 100th base hit of his career, but the Tigers fell to the visiting Black Knights 14-5 in an NTL large school game here Tuesday.
Towanda took a 4-0 lead in their first at-bat and the Tigers got two runs back in the bottom half when Oakes delivered a two-run double, scoring both Andy Hermansen and Shaw, to make it 4-2.
Towanda went up 5-2 in the top of the third inning and exploded for six runs in the top of the fifth to make it 11-2.
The Tigers answered with Davis leading off with the 100th base hit of his Mansfield career, followed by Shaw’s homer to cut the Towanda lead to 11-4. Two batters later, Oakes hit a solo shot over the left field fence to make it 11-5.
The Knights added their final three runs in the top of the sixth to seal the win.
Oakes (2B, HR, 3 RBI, 1 R) and Hermansen (1 R) each had two hits while Davis, Shaw (HR, 2 RBI, 2 R), Easton Pequignot (2B0, Jason Harer and Noah Musser each had a hit.
Hermansen started on the mound and took the loss for North Penn-Mansfield, going four innings and allowing 10 runs (5 earned) on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Harer threw one inning of relief, allowing one earned run on a hit and two walks, Pequignot pitched one inning and gave up three unearned runs on two hits and a walk and Isaac Sparks threw the final inning and allowed one base hit.
The Tigers (8-3) are scheduled to host Troy on Thursday.
