NTL BASEBALL: FAST START LIFTS WELLSBORO OVER CANTON (2025-05-08)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportCANTON — Wellsboro scored 12 runs in the first two innings and went on to earn an 18-5 win over Canton in NTL baseball action here Thursday.
The Hornets used singles from Marek Mascho and Ryder Bowen, two hit batters, three walks and a double from Gabe Sprouse to jump out to a 7-0 first inning lead, then batted around again in the second inning to plate five more and go up 12-0.
Bowen drove in Kody Enck with a sac fly in the third and Wellsboro took a 13-0 lead before Canton scored three runs in the bottom half of the third. After a scoreless fourth inning, the Hornets scored a run in the top of the fifth and Canton added two runs in the home half to make it 14-5.
The Hornets took advantage of four Canton errors, two hit batters and a Dustin Owlett single to tack on four runs in the seventh inning to provide the 18-5 final.
Marek Mascho (2B, 3 runs) had three base hits in the win while Coen Tennis (2 runs), Max Mascho (1 RBI) and Bowen (3 RBI, 3 runs) had two each. Sprouse (4 RBI) and Dustin Owlett (2 RBI, 3 runs) each had a base hit while Gabe Cuneo had an RBI and two runs scored, Cameron Owlett had an RBI and a run scored and Alec Magle scored once.
Max Mascho started and pitched four and a third innings, allowing five runs (2 earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts and Dustin Copp finished, going two and two-third innings and giving up two hits while striking out two.
The Hornets have now won four of their last five games and move to 7-8 on the season. They’re scheduled to host Wyalusing Friday.
