NTL TRACK & FIELD: WELLSBORO GIRLS SECOND AT NTL CHAMPIONSHIPS, BOYS THIRD (2025-05-09)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportATHENS — The Wellsboro Track & Field teams had strong showings at Friday’s NTL Championships, where the Lady Hornets finished in second place and the boys were third.
The girls scored 102.5 points, behind only team champ Athens (133) and ahead of Wellsboro (102.5), Towanda (100.5), Williamson (96), Troy (75), Canton (60), Northeast Bradford (56.5), Wyalusing (44), North Penn-Mansfield (21.5) and Sayre (11).
Piper Hoprich won three titles on the day .. in the 100m (12.29) and 200m (25.46) dashes and on the 4x100m relay team (53.09), while Lauren Kosek won the 3200m title (11:15.30) and Annika Gehman won the triple jump (33-0.25) and was second in both the high jump (4-6) and the long jump (15-10.75).
Kosek was third in the 1600m (5:16.25), as was the 4x400m relay (4:31.35) while Taylor Main placed fourth in the javelin (92-11) and Kristina Belz was fifth in both the high jump and(4-4) and the triple jump (31-7).
Isla Twoey was sixth in the 300m hurdles (54.14) and eighth in the long jump (14-10), Sophia Yoder was sixth in the 200m dash (28.47) and eighth in the 100m (13.80), Elise Largey tied for sixth in the pole vault (6-0) and Jennifer Belz was eighth in the 100m hurdles (18.44).
On the boys’ side, Wellsboro scored 86.5 points, behind team champ Troy (137) and Athens (114) and ahead of Wyalusing (71.5), NP-Mansfield (67), Towanda (63), Northeast Bradford (57) Canton (40), Williamson (32) and Sayre (24).
Gabriel Carpenter placed second in the pole vault (11-0) while David Seeling was second in the 300m hurdles (42.92) and Micah Vickery was third (44.33). Micaiah Fitch placed third in the long jump (19-1.50) and the triple jump (39-6), Alex Citrino was third in the 100m dash (12.15) and Jude Cuneo was third in the 800m (2:05.06).
Seeling placed fourth in the high jump (5-8), Henry Whitney was fifth in the 1600m (4:45.96) and Jacoby Strang was 5th in the 100m dash (12.28) while Emmanuel Posada was sixth in the triple jump (36-7), Jacob Smith was seventh in the javelin (124-3), Citrino was eighth in the 200m dash (25.03), Aaron Kirk was eighth in the 400m (55.59) and Brayden Benjamin finished eighth in the 110m hurdles (19.01) and in the triple jump (36-4.50).
Next up for the Hornets is the District 4 Championships, starting Thursday at Williamsport High School.
