HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: WELLSBORO EARNS NON-LEAGUE, MERCY-RULE WIN OVER COUDERSPORT (2025-05-15)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportWELLSBORO — The Lady Hornets jumped out a 5-0 lead in the first inning against Coudersport and went on to win 12-1 in five innings Thursday afternoon.
After an early out Wellsboro's 2-6 hitters all drew walks and sophomore Mazie Johnson was hit by a pitch. As the inning came to a close freshman Rylee Coolidge, senior Paige Logsdon and freshmen Delaney Morral, Hannah Taylor and sophomore Kaelyn Peterson all crossed home plate.
Wellsboro added two runs in the second inning, with Coolidge scoring on freshman Teagan Novinger’s triple, increasing Wellsboro's lead to 7-0. Wellsboro added another run in the third to make it an 8-0 lead after freshman Adelyn Frantz drew a walk and later scored.
Coudersport got a run back in the top of the 4th to cut it to an 8-1 lead, however, the Lady Hornets put together a 4-run fifth inning to close the game out. Logsdon started the inning with a solo home run, then freshman Madalynn Flannery connected on a double and junior Miya Kemp finished the inning with a triple down the right field line.
Logsdon led Wellsboro at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Flannery, Peterson, Kemp, and freshman Ariel Acevedo were all 1-for-1 and Morral and Novinger were 1-for-2.
Frantz picked up the win on the mound, allowing just two hits while walking one and striking out 12.
The win improves the Lady Hornets to 6-12 overall. The team travels to Northeast Bradford Saturday afternoon for their final game of the season.
