WILLIAMSPORT — NP-Mansfield’s Luke Kreger will be headed to states as he tied for second in the high jump during District IV, Class AA Boys’ Track and Field Championships Saturday.

Kreger jumped 6-feet, 1-inches to tie with three others as he was clean up until 6-feet, 3-inches.

“It feels good,” Kreger said about earning a silver. “Not quite the way I expected but I’ll take it.”

The final results - four advance to states, three tying for second - showed how much of a glut it was at the top.

“It’s stressful,” he remarked. “I’ve been working all week.”

The key for Kreger was being clean beginning at 5-feet, 7-inches, which was where he came in at.

“That really boosted my ego,” Kreger said.

Now he’ll get ready for the PIAA Championships this coming weekend.

“I’m going to try to stop my toe drag,” he said. “And just keep putting in the work.”

In the 800 Michael Knefley (2:008.85) just missed state qualifying time by a second as he took fifth, while Braden VanLoon (2:05.02) was 13th, and Peter Bishop (2:07.16) came in 16th.

Sudan Benner (51.5) was sixth in the 400 with Cedric Miller (55.33) 20th.

The boys’ 4x400 relay was ninth in 3:35.12.

On the girls’ side Jaci Fairchild was 11th in the 1600 (5:41.52) and 22nd in the 800 (2:42.66), as Anna Kennedy was 16th in the 200 (27.80 and 16th in the 400 (1:03.59). Maryn McCarthy (1:04.82) came in 17th in the 400, with Madilynn Scott (31-feet, 7 1/4-inches) taking 16th in the triple jump.

The State Championships will be held at Shippensburg University on Friday and Saturday. Tickets must be purchased online, HERE.
