WILLIAMSPORT — Williamson saw two athletes punched their tickets to the PIAA Track and Field Championships on Saturday, as Olivia Meisner made it in shot put, and Aiden O’Neil qualified in the pole vault.

Meisner took second in shot put at 37-feet, 7 3/4-inches, breaking the state standard on her first two throws of the day.

“It feels amazing, for working so hard for the last two years of doing shot put, it feels amazing,” Meisner said.

She went in as the second seed but it was a talented field with four throws all hitting the state standard.

“I was a little intimidated because I haven’t thrown my PR since I threw it, and I knew a lot of the girls could throw further than me to get their PR, and it was just a little bit intimidating,” said Meisner.

She enjoyed the competition, and camaraderie, of the competition.

“It felt great,” Meisner said. “Everyone was super positive, and encouraging.”

Now she’ll look to get ready for the state meet this weekend.

“I’m really focusing on my form and my mindset,” Meisner said. “I do get a little nervous going into things, but I’m really just going to work on my form because I kind of struggle with that sometimes.”

Also for the girls Madalynn Bailey (2:20.89) just missed qualifying in the 800, taking fourth, while Jade Colwell (12.90) was sixth in the 100.

Colwell (26.92) was 10th in the 200, as well, with Natalie Yonker (5:32.38) finishing seventh in the 1600. Yonker (2:34.73) was also 17th in the 800, with Raegan VanGorden (4-feet, 8-inches) 12th in the high jump.

For the boys O’Neil came in at 13-feet and got it on the last try. He then got 13-feet, 6-inches, the state qualifying mark, on his second try, then hit 14-feet on his second try, as well.

He came up short at 14-feet, 6-inches.

In the 400 Jeavon Eick (52.25) came in 11th.

The State Championships will be held at Shippensburg University on Friday and Saturday. Tickets must be purchased online, HERE.
