NTL BASEBALL: COWANESQUE VALLEY AVOIDS NO-HITTER, FALLS IN STATE QUARTERS TO END SEASON (2025-06-05)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportBELLEFONTE — CV’s dream season came to an end here Thursday as the Indians’ narrowly avoided being no-hit and lost 5-0 to Southern Fulton in the quarterfinals of the State Class A baseball playoffs.
Southern Fulton (22-1), the District 5 champion, broke a 0-0 tie in the bottom of the third inning with a run, added a run in the fourth and scored their final three in the fifth.
CV junior Ayren Morgan broke up Southern Fulton’s no-hitter with a single in the top of the seventh inning, and was also the Indians’ only other baserunner in the game, having reached base on a misplayed grounder to short in the fourth.
Morgan started on the mound for CV and took the loss, going three innings and allowing one earned run on four base hits and four walks with two strikeouts.
Dave Hess relieved Morgan in the fourth and went two innings, giving up four runs (2 earned) on three hits and three walks with one strikeout and Danny Smith threw the final inning and struck out one.
CV finishes their 2025 season with a 16-5 record, an NTL small school title and a District 4 Class ‘A’ championship.
