The Sports Reports
State finalists, and sectional champions, All-state standouts, and historic seasons were all part of this year’s girls’ softball season. In the end, it made for some impressive players on this year’s The Sports Reports' All-Region softball team. 

Corning’s Matti Johnston and Horseheads’ Megan Wolf each led their teams to sectional titles and one to the state semifinals and one to a state final. They are this year’s All-Region ‘Co-Players of the Year.’

Johnston hit .364 with a .568 on-base percentage. She had three home runs, six triples, and scored 36 runs. On the mound, she was 14-5 on the year, had a 1.58 ERA with 143 strikeouts. She led her team to a Section IV title and the state semifinals. 

Wolf had three home runs and scored 36 runs. Had six triples on the year. On the mound she was 14-5 on the year, had a 1.58 ERA with 143 strikeouts. Led her team to the state semifinals after they won sectionals. 

Tioga’s RaeAnne Feeko and Horseheads’ Caitlin Yearick share ‘Offensive Player of the Year’ honors after historic seasons.

Feeko hit .647, with 43 hits in 67 at-bats, including 13 doubles, two triples, and seven home runs. She also had 37 RBI, 40 runs scored, and 15 stolen bases. Feeko was walked six times and hit by pitches five times for an on-base percentage of .692. She had a slugging percentage of 1.209 for an OPS of 1.901. Feeko was also one of the best defensive shortstops in the area and went 1-0 in the pitcher's circle as well, with 10 strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings pitched.

Yearick hit .500 with a .969 slugging percentage and led the region with nine home runs. She stole 16 bases, had 28 RBI and struck out just three times all season. She is a Division I St. John’s commit as a junior. 

Athens’ Gretchan Hiley is the "Pitcher of the Year" after she struck out 266 hitters with a 1.11 ERA in 133 innings, and posted a 19-2 record — leading the Wildcats to their first-ever District 4 title. She also hit .400 with nine doubles, 13 RBI, 28 runs scored, and OPS of 1.027.

Corning’s Kendall Curreri is ‘Defensive Player of the Year.’ An elite defensive shortstop. Curreri helped Corning win a state title her junior year and then led them to state semifinals this year. She hit .362 with two home runs, eight doubles, 17 RBI and 22 runs scored. 

North Penn-Liberty’s Elena Booth is the "Newcomer of the Year." The junior threw 113 innings for North Penn-Liberty, compiling an 11-5 record with a 1.24 ERA and 182 strikeouts and holding opposing hitters to a .161 batting average. She added 14 base hits, seven RBI, a .259 batting average and a .355 OBP at the plate.

Northeast Bradford's Makaylah Leljedal and Horseheads' Paul Richmond share "Coach of the Year" honors.

Leljedal led NEB to their first district title in seven years and their first-ever state title game appearance. 

Richmond took the Blue Raiders to their first state final since 2008 and led them past state-ranked Vestal in the Section IV title game.

Sophie Schoonover, Corning: The freshman hit .400 with a .459 on-base, and drove in 28 runs. She had two home runs, three doubles and a triple on the year. 

Addison Taft, Elmira: An all-state selection for the Express. She is a Bucknell commit and one of the top hitters in Section IV. 

Danasia Thompkins, Notre Dame:
Thompkins had an outstanding .650 on-base for the Crusaders with a .413 batting average. She had 27 RBI and two home runs, while also playing good defense behind the plate. 

Kailey Ripley, Edison: An all-state pick, Ripley hit .500 with a .600 on-base percentage. In league play, she hit .535 with a .630 on-basem and had 23 RBI and 12 doubles, with two home runs. She also had a 1.826 ERA with a 4-1 record on the mound, allowing just eight hits in 23 innings, and striking out 40. 

Raegan Burge, Horseheads:
Burger hit .343 with four home runs, 28 RBI and nine doubles. She was the best regular-season pitcher on the team. 

Miley Laubach, junior, Owego: Laubach was a workhorse and a wall at the catcher position for Owego this season. At the plate, Laubach hit .527 with 29 hits, including eight doubles and one home run, to go with 22 RBI and 22 runs scored. She had a .618 OBP with a .727 slugging percentage for a 1.345 OPS. She stole nine bases as well.

Hailey Litzelman, North Penn-Liberty: One of only two returning starters for the Lady Mounties, Litzelman collected 26 base hits, including eight doubles and a triple, while batting .413 with a .464 on-base-percentage, 15 RBI, 16 runs scored and six stolen bases. She also proved to be a versatile asset defensively, playing numerous positions in the field and posting a 2-0 record in the circle.

Kaegan Short, Williamson: Short led the way for the Lady Warriors at the plate, hitting .439 with 25 base hits, including four doubles, 12 RBI, 24 runs scored and a .542 on-base percentage, thanks to nine walks and five hit batsman. 

Kali Ayres, Troy: Ayres hit .518 with five home runs, 30-RBI, and 21 runs scored.

Addisyn Bly, Wyalusing:
An all-state pick, Bly hit .484 leading off for Wyalusing, with four doubles, two triples, two home runs and more 20 runs scored. 

Tae-Lynn Brabant, Towanda:
Brabant threw 71 1/3 innings, with a 2.10 ERA and 88 strikeouts against 17 walks.

Jaylee Ward, Canton: Ward hit .564 with seven doubles, 12 RBI, and 23 runs scored, while also holding down shortstop for the Warriors.

SECOND TEAM
Lauren Ridall, Troy:
Troy’s excellence behind the plate continued this year as Lauren Ridall moved back there, posting a .979 fielding percentage with 136 put outs. She hit .448 with 38 runs scored.

Lexi Smalley, Williamson: A strong defensive catcher, Smalley did not commit an error all season, while adding 20 hits, 12 RBI and 24 runs scored, and hitting .299 on the year. 

Aurora Parlo, Edison: An all-state pick, Parlo she hit .544 in IAC play and hit .448 on the season. She had 32 runs scored, 18 RBI and five triples, and six doubles. She was 7-1 on the mound with a 2.24 ERA, with 63 strikeouts in 52 innings.

Emily Aiello, Edison: A strong defensive catcher, she had 131 put outs and a .931 fielding percentage. Aiello hit .379 with a .461 on-base and in IAC play hit .468 with a .545 on-base percentage. Overall, she had a 1.157 OPS with a staggering 1.439 in IAC play. She had 10 doubles, three home runs, 15 RBI and a triple, scoring 24 runs.

Ava Sherman, Elmira: Sherman was an elite defender, and strong hitter for Elmira. (No stats provided.)

Emelia Smith, Corning: The 8th-grader hit .397 with a .468 on-base this year. She struck out just four times all year and had 18 RBI and six doubles, with two home runs and a triple. She scored 23 runs. 

Lylie Colunio, Notre Dame: Colunio hit .390 on the year with a .525 on-base percentage. She had 12 RBI and 14 stolen bases. 

Maddie Cron, junior, Waverly: A strong defender at third base, Cron hit .415 (27 hits in 65 ABs) with eight doubles, three home runs, 28 RBI, and 31 runs scored. She walked 10 times and was hit by pitches six times for a .531 on-base percentage, to go along with a .677 slugging percentage for a 1.208 OPS. 

Hannah Carpenter, sophomore, Waverly: An excellent defensive catcher, Carpenter hit .375 (27 hits in 72 ABs) with six doubles, two triples, two home runs, 29 RBI, 20 runs scored, and one stolen base. She had a .430 on-base percentage and a slugging percentage of .597 for an OPS of 1.027.

Carsten Crawford, junior, Owego: Crawford, OFA's ace in the circle, logged 76 innings on the mound, striking out 102 batters and finishing with a 2.95 ERA. Offensively, the junior hit .431 with 25 hits, including four home runs, 22 RBI, 26 runs scored, seven doubles, and four triples in 67 plate appearances, as well as an on-base percentage of .500 and a slugging percentage of .897 for a 1.397 OPS.

Addie Smith, NP-Liberty:
Smith hit .350 with 21 hits, including three doubles, and had 10 RBI, 19 runs scored and 10 steals. She walked 11 times for a .458 on-base percentage.

Paige Logsdon, Wellsboro:
Logsdon hit .440 with 22 hits, including five doubles, one triple, two homes runs, and had nine RBI and 13 runs scored. In the circle, the was 2-2 with 18 strikeouts in 19 innings.

Erinn Knapp, Troy: A newcomer, Knapp pitched 65 1/3 innings with 88 strikeouts and an ERA just under 1 to lead the Trojans.

Aleah Johnson, Towanda: Johnson hit .387 with five doubles, two home runs, and 13 RBI. In the circle, she struck out 69 in 47 1/3 innings of action.

Brynsen Vargason, Towanda: Vargason hit .389 with six doubles, 17 runs scored, and 10 RBI.

Kelsea Moore, Northeast Bradford: Moore hit .387 with seven doubles, two home runs, 17 runs scored, and 19 RBI. She also struck out 97 on the season in 71 2/3 innings in the circle.

Rachel Wilson, Wyalusing: Wilson hit .355 with 19 runs scored, and displayed some power.

Hannah Berger, Northeast Bradford:
Berger hit .450 with four doubles, 15 RBI, and 24 runs scored.

Kate Kithcart, Tioga: Kithcart took over the pitching duties early in the season and posted a 9-3 record with a 2.46 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. She struck out 71 and walked 12, while allowing 68 hits in 74 innings. At the plate, Kithcart hit .469 (30 hits in 64 ABs) with six doubles, two triples, 21 RBI, 21 runs scored, and four stolen bases. She worked eight eight walks for a .469 on-base percentage, to go along with a .625 slugging percentage for a 1.153 OPS.

THIRD TEAM
Treanna Nickeson, Wyalusing:
Nickerson hit .316 with 15 runs scored, while manning the shortstop spot.

Makenna Callear, Northeast Bradford: Callear hit .323 with five doubles, 15 runs scored, and 11 RBI. In the circle, she posted a 2.74 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 61 innings.

Rosie Wheeler, Edison: Wheeler was 7-2 on the mound with 90 strikeouts in a team best 54 1/3 innings. She had a 1.804 ERA. At the plate, she hit .431 with a 513 on-base percentage, nine doubles, 23 runs and 18 RBI. 

Maycie Bennett, Edison: Bennett hit .354 on the year with a .464 on-base percentage. She had 22 RBI and 28 runs scored, with three doubles. 

Lauren Teribury, Corning: Teribury hit .310 on the year with four doubles and 11 RBI.

Marley Devlin, Elmira: One of the top hitters on the Express, she was also strong on the mound for Elmira. (No stats provided.)

Ava Cornacchio, Elmira: A strong presence on the mound for the Express. (No stats provided)

Addisyn Chorney, Elmira: A strong defender and bat for the Express. (No stats provided)

Kyleigh Ayres, Notre Dame:
Ayres hit .390 with 13 RBI. She only committed two errors on the season defensively. 

McKenzie Williams, Tioga: A very good defensive catcher, she was relegated to DH due to a knee injury that cost her the fall and winter seasons, until late in the season. Williams hit .556 (30 hits in 54 ABs) with two doubles, three home runs, 26 RBI, 18 runs scored and two stole baes. She walked nine times and was hit by one pitch for a .625 on-base percentage, to go along with a .759 slugging percentage for a 1.384 OPS.

Maddie Hiley, Athens: A good defender at third base, Hiley hit .320 (24 hits in 75 ABs) with six doubles, one triple, 20 RBI, 19 runs scored, and three stolen bases. She walked five times and was hit by pitches four times for a .393 on-base percentage.

Hiley also contributed in the circle, posting a 2-0 record with a 3.13 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP. She fanned 21, walked nine and allowed 12 hits in 15 2/3 innings. She also threw a five-inning no-hitter.

Lecksie Douglas, Waverly: A defensive standout, Douglas also wielded a dangerous bat, hitting .474 (28 hits in 59 ABs) with two doubles, one home run, 15 RBI, 28 runs scored, and three stolen bases. She had a .515 on-base percentage, and a slugging percentage of .559 for an OPS of 1.074.

Jillian Holmes, SVEC: Holmes, a solid corner infielder for the Eagles, battled injuries throughout the season, but still managed a very productive spring. Holmes averaged .412 from the plate, with four home runs, two doubles, one triple, 12 RBI, and 23 runs scored with six stolen bases. She also worked 14 walks on the season and had an on-base percentage of .608 to go with a .882 slugging percentage for a 1.490 OPS.

Faith Brenchley, senior, SVEC: The veteran shortstop was a steady force offensively. Brenchley had 18 hits, including two home runs, seven doubles and two triples, to go with 21 RBI, 22 runs scored and seven stolen bases. The SVEC senior finished with a batting average of .367 on 64 plate appearances. She also walked nine times, finishing  with a 1.230 OPS.

Zeraya Wilson, Cowanesque Valley:
Wilson hit .412 with 21 hits, including two triples, and had six RBI, six steals, and 25 runs scored. She also walked nine times and had a .500 on-base percentage.

Olivia Gee, Williamson: Williamson hit .310 with 18 hits, including two doubles, one triple, and two home runs, and had 17 RBI, 22 runs scored, and 11 stolen bases. She walked 14 times for a .444 on-base percentage. In the circle, she was 7-1 with a 2.70 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 49 innings pitched.

Adelyn Frantz, Wellsboro: A newcomer, Frantz hit .379 with 22 hits, including five doubles and four home runs, and had eight RBI, eight stolen bases, and 17 runs scored. In the circle, she was 4-11 with 133 strikeouts and 95 innings pitched.

Kenna Thomas, Williamson:
Thomas hit .339 with 19 hits, including five doubles, one triple and three home runs, and had 16 RBI, 21 runs scored, and seven stolen bases. In the circle, she was 4-8 with a 3.18 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 68 innings pitched.

Brooklyn Evans, Towanda: Evans hit .349 with nine doubles, 17 RBI, and 13 runs scored.

Payton Perry, Towanda: Perry hit .348 with 19 runs scored, while also being a strong defensive presence at shortstop.

FOURTH TEAM
Savannah Finan, Athens: 
As a sophomore, Finan hit .261 with seven RBI. This season, Finan, who began the season hitting eighth and finished it in the clean-up spot, hit .382 (21 hits in 55 ABs) with four doubles, one home run, 19 RBI, 12 runs scored, and one steal. She walked nine times and was hit by a pitch four times for a .392 on-base percentage.

Presley McInnis, Horseheads: The 7th-grader started at shortstop on a state finals team, and hit .330 with a .987 fielding percentage. 

Daphne Sherman, Corning:
Sherman led the Hawks with six home runs and drove in 15 runs. She had a .330 on-base percentage.

Kayleigh Sparks, Corning:
Sparks hit .300 and had a .348 on-base percentage, while scoring 12 runs. She also played strong defense all year at second base. 

Taylin Gonzalez, 8th-grader, Waverly: The newcomer posted a 6-5 record with a 3.86 ERA, and 60 strikeouts in 67 innings pitched. At the plate, Gonzalez hit .424 (25 hits in 59 ABs) with six doubles, two triples, one home run, 23 RBI, and 21 runs scored. She walked 10 times and was hit by pitches twice for a .662 on-base percentage with a slugging percentage of .644 for an OPS of 1.306 OPS.

McKenna Jarvis, sophomore, Athens: A good defensive center fielder, Jarvis hit .342 (25 hits in 73 ABs) with four doubles, one home run, 18 RBI, 21 runs scored, and 12 stolen bases. She had an on-base percentage of .392.

Raegan Parrish, senior, Sayre: Parrish hit .446 (25 hits in 59 ABs) with eight doubles, two triples, 14 RBI, 18 runs scored, and two stolen bases. She had a .661 slugging percentage and an OPS of 1.135.

Abby DeBolt, Newark Valley: A newcomer, the sophomore pitcher threw 58 innings for the Cardinals, reaching 100 strikeouts on the very last batter she faced. Offensively, DeBolt hit .324 with a home run, three doubles and eight RBI. She also worked seven walks and finished with a .457 on-base percentage and a .486 slugging percentage for a .943 OPS.

Maia Smith, Owego: Smith made the move to shortstop this season and helped anchor the OFA infield. From the plate, Smith hit .383 with 23 hits, including eight doubles and 23 RBI, while scoring 14 runs. The senior shortstop finished with a .424 on-base percentage and a .517 slugging percentage for a .941 OPS.

Lilah LaBarron, Cowanesque Valley: The freshman hit .450 with 18 hits, including four doubles, 11 RBI, six runs scored, four steals, and a .522 on-base percentage. In the circle, she was 3-4 with 75 strikeouts in 72 innings.

Maddie Smith, North Penn-Liberty:
Smith hit .373 with 25 hits, including two doubles and four triples, 10 RBI, 21 runs scored, 19 steals, and a .419 on-base percentage.

Ashley Woodring, Cowanesque Valley: Woodring hit .593 with 16 hits, including three doubles two triples, and two home runs, 14 RBI, nine runs scored, and a .686 on-base percentage. In the circle, she was 0-1 with 14 strikeouts in 19 innings.

Savanna Dean, Williamson: Dean hit .333 with 17 hits, including one home run, nine RBI, 15 RBI, 10 steals, 11 base on balls, and a .452 on-base percentage.

Leila Cobb, Towanda: Cobb hit .317 with two home runs, 12 RBI, and 11 runs
scored.

Tara Gilbert, Canton: Gilbert hit .309 with with a home run, and 11 RBI.

Addison Fluck, Wyalusing: Fluck struck out 113 as a starter for the Rams.

Josie Ferris, Wyalusing:
Ferris hit .293 and was versatile defensively.

Orissa Gardner, Northeast Bradford: Gardner hit .424 with 19 RBI, five doubles, and 13 runs scored.

Kiarra DeLancey, Northeast Bradford:
DeLancey hit .329 with 23 runs scored, and three triples.

Toni Herb, Northeast Bradford: Herb hit .323 with 18 runs scored, 12 RBI, and five doubles, while playing strong defense up the middle.

Amber James, Troy: James hit .380 with 10 RBI and nine runs scored.

Madi Palmer, Troy: Palmer hit. 322 with 14 RBI and 19 runs scored.

Emily Shiner, junior, Tioga: A good defender at second base, Shiner hit .521 (25 hits in 48 ABs) with five doubles, one triple, 13 RBI, 17 runs scored, and two stolen bases. She walked six times for a .574 on-base percentage, to go along with a .667 slugging percentage for a 1.241 OPS.

Marlee Stanton Troy:
Stanton hit .283 with 16-RBI and 15 runs scored, while playing strong defense in centerfield.

Keana Mann, Corning:
Mann hit .300 with a .373 on-base. Had 13 runs scored and four doubles.

Charleigh Ripley, Notre Dame: Ripley hit .310 and had just one error at second base. She drove in nine runs as a 7th-grader. 

Samantha Bonnell, Horseheads: A starting infielder for a state championship team as an 8th-grader. She was able to start games at shortstop at second base and excel at each, while also coming up big at the plate all season.

Paige Bubniak, Waverly: A good defender at second base, Bubniak hit .288 (17 hits in 59 ABs) with two doubles, one home run, 15 RBI, 20 runs scored, and six stolen bases in six attempts. She walked 10 times for an on-base percentage of .391.

Memphis Paul, Athens:
A good defensive catcher, Paul hit .290 (20 hits in 69 ABs) with two doubles, one triple, one home run, 14 RBI, 16 runs scored, and six stolen bases. She walked eight times and was hit by pitches twice for a .380 on-base percentage.

Bri Lounsbury, Tioga: A speedster, Lounsbury hit .400 (20 hits in 50 ABs) with 10 RBI, 24 runs scored, and 17 stolen bases. She walked 20 times and was hit by one pitch for a .569 on-base percentage.

Ayla Wheeler, Waverly: Wheeler contributed at the plate and in the pitcher's circle. She hit .294 (10 hits in 34 ABs) with one double, five RBI, and 11 runs scored. In the circle, she was 1-3 with one save, a 5.58 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 31 1/3 innings.

McKenna Parrish, Sayre: Parrish hit .286 (14 hits in 49 ABs) with one double, six RBI, 12 runs scored, and two stolen bases. She walked seven times and was hit by one pitch for a .386 on-base percentage.

Mia Madden, Corning: A newcomer who started on a state final four team, Madden had a .283 on-base and scored nine runs. She had 10 hits on the year with four RBI.
