TIOGA COUNTY — As we are just days away from the start of the 2025 Fall sports season, let’s take a final look back at the Top 20 highlights of the 2024-’25 sports year here in the West.

No. 17
North Penn-Liberty Softball Avenges Streak-Ending Loss to Athens

The young Lady Mounties took a 50 game winning streak into their first match-up with eventual large school and District 4 Class 4A champ Athens on April 18th and fell 5-1, but in the rematch on May 6th, NP-Liberty eked out a 1-0 win to hand the Lady Wildcats their lone loss of the regular season.

North Penn-Mansfield Football Edges Wellsboro for Morty Trophy

The Panthers and Hornets were each 2-7 as they met in the Morton F. Jones Trophy game for each teams’ season finale. Wellsboro jumped out to a 14-0 lead behind a pair of Ryder Bowen TD’s, but Panther senior QB Cooper Shaw would finish his final high school game with 155 yards rushing and 117 yards through the air on 7-17 passing with all four of the Panthers’ TDs to lead NP-Mansfield to the win.

North Penn-Mansfield Golf

Head Coach Shawn Mitchelltree and the Tigers finished 27-8-1 in the NTL, behind only league and District 4 Class 3A champ Athens, and sent two golfers to States .. junior Andy Hermansen and senior Tate Strange.
