Northern Tier West Sports Report
BRANSON, MO — North Penn-Liberty soon-to-be-sophomore Isaac Sparks has helped his West End Williamsport 15/16 baseball team to the finals of the Babe Ruth World Series, being held in Branson, Missouri this week.

As a freshman for the North Penn-Mansfield baseball team last season, Sparks appeared in 10 games for the Tigers, pitching 11 innings in four appearances and going 1-0 with a 1.97 ERA , no walks and six strikeouts.

For West End Williamsport 15/16, Sparks joins players from Williamsport, South Williamsport, Montgomery, Montoursville and Loyalsock and is the youngest player on the team.

Prior to this week’s World Series, West End played in the PA State Playoffs where Sparks combined with three other pitchers to each throw an inning and no-hit Upper Darby, PA for a 29-0 win, then threw two and two-third innings against Broomhall, PA allowing one hit with two K’s in a 17-1 win.

West End is now 6-0 at the World Series after going 4-0 in pool play with wins over Na7ive Na7ions (3-1), Puerto Rico (10-0), Alabama (7-0) and Aruba (7-0).

Against Na7ive Na7ions, Sparks was used as a pinch-runner and scored the go-ahead run in the 3-1 win, and in the 10-0 win over Puerto Rico, Sparks threw a perfect final inning with one strikeout.

Williamsport then beat New Zealand (10-1) and California (3-2) to reach Saturday’s final.

In West End’s 10-1 win over New Zealand, Sparks threw the final two and two-third innings and allowed no runs with a pair of K’s before the Williamsport squad topped Westchester, CA 3-2 on a 7th-inning walk-off to reach the championship game.
